Really a rather good Torchwood novel, taking Bilis Manger from the end of the first season and Idris from the Who episode Boom Town, and also an alternate timeline which foreshadows a lot of future developments (blowing up the Hub, leaving Gwen, Rhys and their baby as the sole survivors of Torchwood). I liked that one a lot as well. I've been impressed by the Torchwood tie-ins that I've read so far -- one or two I haven't liked as much because they were written early on and canon has changed under them, but they've generally been good explorations of the Torchwood universe that use the basic universe rules to good effect, rather than being generic science fantasy plots with the characters dropped in.
