This short (170 pages) and digestible book of essays on the Russell T. Davies era of Doctor Who was published last month by the Science Fiction Foundation; the editors kindly invited me to contribute when it was first mooted two years ago, and I wish I had had the time (and scholarly resources) to do so, as it is always nice to be in good company ( ( Read more... )

Thank you very much! We're sorry you weren't able to contribute as well.

The reason that there's only one essay that touches on the spin-offs was that our brief in the call for papers specifically directed contributors to focus on Who rather than the other shows, and we rejected proposals we thought were too much about the other shows.

Also, to clarify, I wasn't arguing that only SJS could have been brought back, but that had anyone else been brought back, the story of "School Reunion", that of callous abandonment by the Doctor, could not have been told about them.
