So, I've now finished all the novels on the Hugo shortlist, and can get started on the short fiction. Some of you will remember my exchanges with Scalzi on the first book in this series, Old Man's War, which I took as an endorsement of kick-ass militarism and a mockery of the concept of conflict resolution. I remeber the discussion, it was what first made me aware of Scalzi. Android's Dream is currently top of my 'read next' pile although I've only also read OMW. Shame it's not as good as it could be (or just not to your taste), I'll have to see when I get around to it I guess.

Your comment about Scalzi's characters all speaking in the same voice is dead on -- and that really does get a bit tiring. Especially when the character is an alien!
