I've never hated Angel, I actually like him. A lot. But I do have a love/hate relationship with Buffy(mostly because of her actions toward Spike) so I know exactly what you mean. Good mate is always a gift to the fandom.

Back when I was a youngun - probably in early high school? - I read a quote which I cannot remember the source of, nor can I remember the actual wording of it. But it goes something like this:

If you endeavor to understand people you hate, you will find very soon there can be no more hate, only love.

It's the understand part of that sentiment that's the entire point of everything ever. We fall down a lot as a people in the 'understanding' part of life
