The night you left, I promised you I wouldn’t cry. I waved you off, and smiled sweetly, my lips still warm from your ‘one for the road?’ I sighed softly as your horses disappeared from my sight, and as I turned around I laughed slightly at the scarf Much left behind. I hope he didn’t need it.

I kept my promise as I swept the downstairs of the house, dusting the table and singing as I went. I giggled as I brushed down the horse, and cuddled up in bed that night. Then, as I felt the cold around my waist, and the streaks of my hair that ached from the miss of your touch, the first tear fell. And that’s when I realised. You promised me you’d never leave. I promised you I wouldn’t cry when you left. I suppose you could call us even now.
