You modern men don't know the importance people from my time put on their own blood children. I am having a hard time adjusting to the idea that I won't have a son who has my father's blood to go with my father's name. And I am speaking of my deceased father, who died with my mother in Paris long ago.

Oh. I guess I wouldn't understand-- I've never wanted kids at all, so it's not really an issue for me.

I would love an adopted child no less, but right now I do feel as if I've failed him.

How is it a failure?

It's what's expected. I'm the last male in my branch of the family. I'm supposed to have a son.

[nursegavin]

But it's not much of an accomplishment just to have a kid. It's raising them well that you can be proud of.

I understand that. *sighs*

Then again, by my time, the world's getting so overpopulated that it starts to seem like a better idea to adopt a kid who's already there and in need of someone to take care of them. Maybe it's different, earlier on.

It was inheritance laws. It should not matter, and it doesn't reflect on the child, but I feel it as a failing in my heart.

It might be one of those feelings that fades after a while. Maybe.

I hope so. But there are still options in a community that has access to magic in such abundance.
