Much of it is compromise, and figuring out what's important to both each of you, and to you as a couple. Then aiming for that.
Yes, the families of those involved get a say. (...and they should get some say) Just remember that it's your (both yours and his) day, and you're the final arbiters of what's going on.
It can be big, and messy, and involved. Or short, sweet, and simple. It all depends on what you guys want.
