"Traitor's Purse" is my absolute favorite Campion book! :-) I understand how it would be really tough to follow if it was your first, though. But among other things -- including being a fantastic spy story -- it was a brilliant way of turning the relationship between Campion and Amanda into a real romance. Few other authors could have pulled that off as well.

I want to get into "I Spy" at some point. (I know they rerun it on one of our cable channels, I just keep forgetting to look for it.) I love Bill Cosby, and though I understand this isn't the typical Cos, it still looks really cool.

It's great! I really enjoy it now, and yes, excellent on the romance. Fashion in Shrouds had a bit, but not enough.

It's totally worth it. I think they're all on Hulu now, too. I understand I Spy was practically the first thing Cos ever really did, and Culp helped him a LOT at first. He's a bit stiff in the first couple episodes (not "So Long, Patrick Henry"), and their rapport isn't really singing yet, but it's still great. And then it takes off. Do get into it! (And write about it! :D)

Sourcebooks has been reprinting Heyer in trade paperback and ebook editions.

Is that a publisher? I don't do ebooks. When I started reading them, they weren't in any libraries and there weren't any available on the bookswap sites or local used bookstore. Ebay was the only option.

Yes, it's a publisher. I've seen the books in the local Barnes & Noble, so your local bookstore should be able to order them. Or you can get them from online bookstores, like Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Powell's.

I started reading Heyer around 40 years ago -- while she was still writing. The paperbacks I have from that era have mostly deteriorated.

Maybe those are the books I've been seeing, then, with the period illustrations on the covers? They're very pretty. There are a lot more on Amazon than I've ever seen at B&N. Good!

I can imagine! I've got old PBs, but some seem much higher quality than others.

I was not aware that you discovered Indiana Jones through...the soundtrack. That's an incredibly unique way to have discovered Raiders!

Oh, dear. You started with Traitor's Purse? I can imagine the confusion! (I deliberately haven't read it yet, because it sounds like it *needs* to be read in order, but it's been hinted at in other books. And I imagine coming into the romantic subplot halfway through was disorienting.)

Are you lacking any Heyer romances, BTW? I know I've seen a few titles at the library bookshop. No clue if they're still there, but I think I saw "Frederica", among others. And a couple of her historical novels, which I was half tempted to get for myself.

It wasn't until I started writing this that I realized how unique it was! And rediscovered how profound the influence of all those soundtracks remains.

Yes, ma'am. Horribly disorienting. It says a lot for the writing, plot, and characters that I came back for more!

There are a few I'm missing. My LibraryThing account has what should be a current inventory, and I think both my PBS and BookMooch wishlists show what I don't have. I do have Frederica (albeit with a Hello, Dolly-esque cover illustration!!). I've got quite a few of the historicals, if you'd like to try them - either loan or swap. :D I'd like your opinion. The only one I've really read is Beauvallet. Good, but definitely not the same genre of writing.
