“Where are we even going?”
“The cemetery,” William answers triumphant.
“That is-“
“Brilliant?” William supplies.
“Creepy?”

“Seriously? That is your plan?” Travis looks at Gabe as if he were crazy. He knows, of course, that Gabe is crazy, but the point is that this is freaking him out a bit for some reason.

“We're totally coming with you.”

“Why?” Travis asks, dubious.

“Because you can't just be yourself or behave around him. Maybe you want to touch his hair again,” Gabe says, Travis gives William a death glare, “and besides when you're not alone it looks less suspicious,” Gabe finishes.

“Actually, that’s a solid reason,” Travis admits.

~+~
“...and Lindsey said you're not eating when they aren't here,” Travis closes his case. He is a bit nervous to be here, but at least he's not alone.

“I am eating,” Gerard says one eyebrow raised.

“Chips, cigarettes and coffee, don't count,” Travis answers. That’s what Lindsey said.

“Are you letting us in, Mister Way?” William asks. Travis loves that William is so fucking polite. You just can't say no to that kid. “We also have cake. If that helps?”

“And everything is vegan,” Gabe throws in.

Gerard smiles at William. He's so sold, Travis thinks. William is made of pure, sharp, sarcastic evil, but he looks like his insides are made of candy and unicorns.

“Yes, please come in,” Gerard says.

“We're no vampires...” Gabe mumbles and Gerard laughs.

There are dirty coffee-mugs everywhere in the house. William raises an eyebrow and Gerard blushes.

“I forget to put them into the dishwasher,” he explains a bit sheepishly.

William shrugs and grabs a few of the mugs on their way to the kitchen, since he’s not carrying around any food and is able to clear up.

There are more mugs in the kitchen; on the table and the counter.

“I didn't even know people could have that many mugs, dude,” Gabe says impressed with the chaos.

“Frank keeps bringing them home. We can't make him stop. I think he has a problem...” Gerard answers.

Gabe laughs, putting the boxes with food onto the table. He grabs a few dirty mugs and hands them over to William who started to load the dishwasher while no one was looking.

“You can start to heat it up,” Travis suggests and Gerard nods.

“Sure.”

~+~
“This tastes fantastic!” Gerard says, nodding for emphasis.

William's cheeks colour faintly pink. “Thanks,” he mumbles into his own food.
Travis nudges him under the table and William nudges back, smiling.

“So, you guys just came over to bring me food, so I won't starve?” Gerard asks.

“And we wanted to have a good hard look at you. Travis is spending more time with you guys than with us lately. We’re spying out the competition,” Gabe grins.

“We aren't that interesting,” Gerard replies.

“I wouldn't be so sure. I don't know many people who can make a relationship like yours work. How long are you together anyway with your wife and your Frank?” Gabe asks.

Travis wants to kick him hard, but he is kind of relieved that Gabe didn't say 'Starfish' and he wants to know that too.

“Five years now,” Gerard answers.

“See? That is interesting,” Gabe says, nodding. Travis does kick him under the table then. If Gerard notices he doesn't say a word about it.

“Travis said you have a really big collection of horror movies?” William asks. Travis smiles at him gratefully. William doesn't even like horror movies. He doesn’t find them plausible.

“Yeah, you guys want to stay for a while and watch something?” Gerard asks.

“That would be lovely.”

Gabe rolls his eyes at William, but Travis figures he can't kick him again so soon, so he settles for glaring. Why the hell did he even think it would be a good idea to bring Gabe? It's never a good idea to introduce Gabe to anyone...

~+~
“And Lindsey said you will be home alone a whole week,” Travis explains, shifting his weight nervously from one foot to another.

“She what?”

“Texted me that he and Frank and his band are doing some more gigs, because they are just that awesome? Right and so me and William, we're coming baring food again.”

“Mister Way,” William says, nodding. He's holding a bowl with salad and on top of that is a small box with brownies his mom made.

“Mister Beckett, please come in,” Gerard answers with a soft smile.

To bring William is the best idea in the universe. Maybe Gabe was right about the whole food=love thing. Who would’ve guessed?

~+~
“This is the best salad ever. I need to know how to make it so Frank can prepare it for me every day,” Gerard says.

“I can write it down for you Mister Way,” William answers. He doesn’t blush, but it’s a close call. William loves cooking and baking, even if he sucks a bit at the baking part, what he cooks is always delicious. Gabe gives him shit for it every time, but Travis knows he’s glad that William makes real food for them whenever they are over.

“You should come over when Frank is home. He loves cooking too. He makes really great pasta with cherry tomatoes and olives. It’s the most delicious thing in the world.” Gerard nods for emphasis.

“I would like that,” William says.
Gerard smiles. Travis loves how Gerard makes William feel welcome and like he belongs here.

~+~
They’re back the next day with Gabe, because Gabe’s mother makes a mean casserole and she thinks it’s cute that they care about a friend like that.

“What did you even tell her?” Travis asks.

“Nothing that could make her suspicious. Give me some credit here,” he lights a cigarette and inhales deeply.

“Okay…”

”We don’t have a dessert,” William says as he opens the door.

“I thought you wanted to make muffins?” Gabe asks, exhaling.

“I failed and mom banned me from the kitchen.” He shrugs likes it’s not a big deal, but Travis knows it is a big deal. William really wants to learn how to bake.

“Nothing we can do about it now,” Travis answers.

“We could buy something?” Gabe says.

“Sure, why the hell not.”

~+~
Gerard opens the door covered in paint. “Uhm…” Travis says.

“Did you forget we would come over, Mister Way?”

“No, I just didn’t-“

“Gerard! I’m freezing my ass off!” comes a voice from the studio’s direction.

“Is Chibi here?” Travis asks.

“The naked chick?” Gabe says.

Gerard gives him a look. “We don’t say chick here and it doesn’t matter if she’s naked.”

“We have enough food for five people, but I failed at the dessert, so we bought a chocolate cake?” William says.

Gerard smiles at him. “No problem. You know where the kitchen is, just go-“

“Gerard! The FUCK!”

“I’m coming! Just don’t move!” he yells back. “So sorry. We’ll be with you in 20 minutes?”

“Sure,” Travis says. “We’re just gonna heat this stuff up and set the table.”

“Yes, thanks,” Gerard answers and is running up the stairs a second later.

~+~

“He has a naked chick in his studio while his wife is away…” Gabe says as Travis is setting the table.

William rolls his eyes. “He’s not like you. He actually cares for the people he sleeps with.”

“I care about them too. They always have a good time!”

“It’s not the same and besides Gerard doesn’t sleep with Chibi,” Travis throws in.

“Damn right he doesn’t. Lindsey would kick his ass,” Chibi says from the door. “This smells delicious and I’m starving!”

“Hi Chibi,” Travis waves a bit and she smiles widely at him.

“Hi Travis, wanna take out the sketchbook? I’m here for another few hours.”

“Uhm..if Gerard doesn’t mind?”

“Where the hell is Gerard anyway?” Gabe asks.

“In the shower,” she answers, sitting down.

“Showering?” Gabe asks.

“I think, maybe he’s jerking off?” she smiles evilly.

“I’m making coffee,” William throws in. Travis nods, sitting down. He cannot deal with the image of Gerard jerking off in the shower. Water running down his pale skin, washing away paint in colourful rivulets.

“You okay, Travis?” Gabe grins.

“Just peachy,” he fumbles in his pocket for his pack, but doesn’t light one. He doesn’t want his food to taste partly like ash.

Gerard enters the kitchen just as the coffee is ready. He’s wearing jeans and a t-shirt that looks like he fought a spacewar in it. His hair is wet and dripping water on the tiles.

Chibi rolls her eyes. “Sit down, the boys made coffee and have cake and dinner!”

“They bring me food every day,” Gerard says.

“Lucky you. You should keep them.”

Gerard’s gaze brushes Travis. He smiles. “Maybe I should.”

Travis’ stupidly in love inner teenage girl dances the victory dance.

~+~
“It’s too early to be up,” Travis grumbles as he opens the door to find William on his porch.

“Your parents are gone again?”

“Yeah, the whole weekend…what are you doing here? And for the record: I hate you. It’s not even ten.”

“You love me and I know it. I bring you breakfast and I have a plan for today.”

“Uhm…what kind of breakfast?” Travis asks, suspicion colouring his voice.

William rolls his eyes. “I did not make it myself. Cinnamon buns.”

“Oh, okay…not that-“

“I know and I do not wish to poison you,” William grins stepping inside.

Travis follows him into the kitchen. He sits down and lets William handle the coffeemaker and, well, everything, while he tries to wake up.

“You need to shower and then get dressed and we’re taking all your money and buy some food.”

“Uhmm, why?”

“We’re having a picnic with Gerard. He needs to get out of the house. He’s painting, writing and only eating when we’re there.”

“He’s a grown man, you know.”

“You’re just being lazy right now. Here,” he says, putting a mug in front of him. Travis inhales deeply.

“Thanks.”

“Eat your bun and then go shower and put on some nice clothes,” William says.

“Does Gerard know that you’re going to torture him this early?”

“I’m not going to. We need to prepare food first. I think we can be at his place around two?”

“I hate you so much…” Travis mumbles.

“Eat your bun.”

~+~
Gerard’s hair is a mess when he opens the door bleary eyed. He looks like he fell out of bed.

“Mister Way,” William greets.

“Mister Beckett,” Gerard answers.

“We bring food and-“

“Yes, of course you do, please come in. I’ll be with you in…when I showered and got dressed.” He yawns and waves them inside.

Travis watches him go up the stairs. He really would love to- yeah, no this doesn’t help at all. William looks at him as if he knows what Travis is thinking. He probably does. It’s not too hard to figure out. He is 17 and in love and didn’t get laid in what feels like forever. AND: Gerard was talking about showering, which means he’s going to be naked and wet. Just a few meters away from him, even.

~+~
William makes tea for himself and coffee for Travis and Gerard. Travis lights a cigarette.

“This isn’t a romantic picnic, is it?” Travis asks, sipping his coffee.

“Every picnic is a romantic picnic,” William answers.

“Where are we even going?”

“The cemetery,” William answers triumphant.

“That is-“

“Brilliant?” William supplies.

“Creepy?”

“You draw zombie-ducks on their garage, Gerard wrote a haiku about zombie-ducks, Frank has Halloween tattooed on his knuckles…I’m just going to assume this is what a romantic picnic for the Ways and their Frank would look like, okay? Okay.”

Travis nods, there is nothing he can say to that. William’s logic is sound as always.

~+~
“A picnic?” Gerard asks.

“You need to get out of the house, Mister Way and I made delicious food that tastes even better outside,” William answers.

Gerard gives him a soft look and an even softer smile. Travis is pretty sure that if William wasn’t only 14 Gerard would so ask him to sit for him and maybe out for a drink and- yeah, stop right the fuck there, Travis orders his inner voice. His inner voice often sounds like Gabe. Which just can’t be good in any universe.

“You have a place you want to go and can I take my sketchbook?”

“Yes and yes,” William answers, smiling.

“You’re not going to tell me where we’re going, are you?”

“It’s a surprise, Mister Way.”

“Get in the car you two. Where is Gabe anyway?”

“Fucking his latest conquest,” William says.

Gerard looks at him. Travis knows how he feels, it’s always a bit of a shock to hear words like ‘fucking’ come out of William’s mouth and also the tone he uses only when he speaks about Gabe having sex with someone? It tells you a lot of things. None of them are pleasant.

“Okay…” Gerard says softly and William blushes, but doesn’t apologize.

~+~
“I didn’t know this place even existed,” Gerard says, he’s looking around as Travis and William take out the blanket and food.

“We knew you would like it,” William answers. Maybe, Travis thinks, maybe I love William a lot.

“I love it. I just-“

“-love it, yeah,” Travis finishes for him.

Gerard grins. “Going to sketch that headstone over there, be back in…”

“Whenever you’re ready. This isn’t going to get cold.”

Travis gets out his own sketchbook as they sit down and William grabs his copy of Exquisite Corpse. Travis makes a face, for all the horror William hates to watch, he loves the creepy books the most.

“It’s a love-story,” William says without prompting.

“About serial killers.”

“Serial killers can fall in love too,” William answers. “They’re just a stranger, darker kind of humanity.”

~+~
When Travis looks up half an hour or so later from his sketch of a tree, he catches Gerard looking at them, or maybe he’s really sketching William, who’s absorbed in his book.

He stands up and walks over to where Gerard is sitting, back against an old headstone.

“I thought he didn’t like horror,” Gerard says.

Travis looks at him sharply. Gerard smiles. “When did you figure that out?”

“After the first time he sat in my living room.”

“He says it’s a love-story,” Travis answers.

“It’s true. It is a love-story.”

“About serial killers who eat their victims and have sex with them before and after they’re dead.”

“They’re just a darker, stranger kind of humanity. It doesn’t mean they aren’t able to love,” Gerard answers.

Travis nods. Well, fuck. William and Gerard, they would be kind of perfect for each other. “He said that too.”

“He’s in love with Gabe, isn’t he?”

“Gabe doesn’t do love,” Travis answers.

Gerard smiles. “Yeah, he thinks that now,” he replies, closing his sketchbook and getting up. He holds a hand out to Travis and when Travis grabs it he pulls him up as well. He is surprisingly strong for an artist.

William smiles and puts his book aside. “Ready for some food?”

“Yes, I am starving. Being outside makes you just extra hungry,” Gerard says, sitting down on the blanket. William nods handing over dishes and cutlery. It’s the china and metal kind, because this is William and he has an aversion to paper and plastic.

~+~
It’s really late when they pack up and drive home. William is nearly asleep in the backseat, cuddling with the blanket. There are small leaves and grass blades on his clothes and in his hair. He looks really pretty and really young.

“You think Gabe will come around?” Travis whispers.

“I don’t know.”

“I think he’s afraid, because William is so young and kind of…” he waves his hand uselessly, because he can’t really describe William.

“Different? Complicated? Not what Gabe is used to?”

“Yeah…”

Gerard gives him a long look Travis can’t really interpret, but doesn’t answer.

“Can I sleep at your place?” William asks softly from the back. He’s looking at Gerard and Travis knows that Gerard is going to say yes, because he’s a sucker for William. “I don’t want to be alone,” he adds.

“Sure. Travis?”

“Yeah, I mean, if that’s okay. My folks aren’t home this weekend anyway.”

~+~
They get the only guest room that is just a bit away from where Gerard is sleeping alone right now.

“Don’t even think about sneaking into his bed,” William mumbles against his neck.

“I wasn’t.”

“Liar, even I was and I’m not even in love with him,” William whispers.

“But you do like him. A lot.”

“He is kind of special, you now?”

“Yeah, I know,” Travis answers. “He thinks that your serial killer story is a love-story, too.”

William’s arm sneaks under his shirt to rest there. It doesn’t mean anything except that he doesn’t want to be alone. “Told you.”

Travis smiles. “Night, Bill.”

“Night.”

~+~
Travis stumbles into the bathroom not even really awake and doesn’t get that someone’s there already until he’s face to face with a naked Gerard.

He panics, stumbles, nearly bashes his head on the sink. Gerard grabs his arm to keep him from falling and dying a horrible and embarrassing death on the Ways’ bathroom floor.

“Sorry, sorry…I didn’t mean to, I wasn’t trying. I think I should go now. Like right now!”

He tries not to look at Gerard. He’s concentrating hard on the feel of Gerard’s fingers around his arm, tries to breathe carefully and not panic again.

“It’s okay…I mean-“ Gerard stops and lets go of his arm.

“I’m going to make coffee, okay? Okay.” And he’s out of the door. The need to pee forgotten in his shock.

He is so screwed.

~+~
Breakfast is a silent affair, but Travis is thankful for that: he’s no ready to face the fact that Gerard touched him while he was naked. It was strangely hot to see Gerard like that and it was a total turn on being the one who was fully clothed.

William looks like he doesn’t want to face the day at all, but still well rested.

“I like your guest room,” he says as Gerard hands him tea.

“Lindsey decorated it.”

“I like the creepy stars on the wall with the window,” he yawns. “And the bed is really soft…”

“You are lovely,” Gerard says softly.

It’s kind of strange. ‘Lovely’ is not a word Travis thought he would ever hear Gerard say.

“We’re coming back with food later,” William answers.

“Or you could stay and I’ll just order in.”

“No pizza and no horror movies,” William replies.

“Aliens then?” Travis asks.

“Deal.”

When Gerard smiles at him, Travis thinks he is on his way to make Gerard believe him too, because love was never the problem.
