CAUTION!!!!
This is a review of
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1.
It contains very detailed spoilers.

Do not read below the cut unless you want to be seriously spoiled!!!!

You have been warned.

First off, nothing is more fun than having an IMAX theater to yourself (and about 50 co-workers).  We arrived around 7 PM, having been told ( Read more... )

I'll come back and read your post after seeing the movie. I decided I don't want to be spoiled (which is a new attitude for me). It's not that I don't know what happens, it's just that I don't want to know where they cut the book, or what they included and what they skipped, or what they made up. I personally don't have high hopes, b/c I didn't like HP6, and it's the same guy directing again, right?

It is the same director, and I hope this time you will be happier with the result.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I like to know what is happening. It's not as though we don't know the story, unlike the "movies-only" girl. Dan Radcliffe's interviews haven't helped dispel the feeling that Harry and Hermione have something going on.

No, they've not, have they? It made me quite nervous about it.

Thanks for posting this! I'll have more to say after I've seen it, too, but I loved hearing your impressions.

The movies-only girl mentioned (as we left the theater) that it's so sad that Hermione is so obviously in love with Ron, and Harry so obviously has a crush on Hermione. *sigh*

*GAG GAG GAG* I hear that the scene when Ginny asks Harry to help zip her up is very good, indicates a level of intimacy without being explicit. Sort of what they were going for with the shoelace scene but not so laughable? *sigh*

I thought the H/G pairing got shafted by the movies but that's nothing compared to R/T!

I do wonder what Bellatrix would have been like if Helen McCrory had played her instead of Helena Bonham-Carter.

I so didn't want HB-C, she turns her part into a cartoon, and HMc would have been so perfect. *sigh *

Spoilers - don't look if it matters mcgonagalls_cat November 20 2010, 00:55:45 UTC
First - Thanks fir your review! A) You were spot on, B) I loved the movie!
On the whole, I'd recommend it!

Spoilerz follow ~

OK - The thing it George's ear appeared to me to be a toothbrush. At first I thought it was to distract us due to them not being able to do suitable prosthetic makeup, but then it occurred to me that if they can erase Ralph Fienne's nose they could do George's ear better...thus I have no idea WHY they did that.
I did notice a lack of quirky magic throughout. There were a few spots here and there (like Albus' Will while Scrimgeor was reading it), but mostly those things seemed to be minimal...which I missed.

Now that I've seen the movie, I wanted to see how you perceived it. You pay a lot more attention to the details than I did - it comes from your experience with acting, no doubt! I didn't notice the Equus poster, for example. And things that have to do with filming technique are beyond me.

But overall I didn't particularly enjoy it. Not a terrible movie, but too muddled and mechanical. It didn't really work for me.
