I must have missed some of your posts, b/c I didn't know that you were redoing your kitchen. That is a major renovation! And it already looks good. Can't wait to see photos of the finished place - especially the bamboo floor. Did you hire a contractor/architect/designer, or are you doing this on your own?
The kitchen has been an on-going project since January. It's gone slow, so I haven't devoted a lot of posts on it.
We didn't hire anyone for the project except the stone cutters and the plumber. Hubby and I have done all the design and he has done all the destruction and construction. He is a very talented man!
The bamboo floor is not the classic light colored bamboo. We are using stranded bamboo and it is about as dark as the Brazilian walnut that was our other consideration. The stranded bamboo is harder than oak, and of course, being bamboo, is 'greener'. It's also considerably less expensive than the walnut, but still gives me the dark floor I want that will stand up to the rough life a kitchen in the country must face. (Hubby's brilliant and talented, but he never remembers to wipe his feet!)
Wow! You're both talented, no question about it. We wouldn't even know where to start. And that choice of flooring seems perfect. Can't wait to see pictures of the finished kitchen. With close-ups on the floor, please!
I think a bamboo floor will look really nice with that blue you chose. And I bet you'll be psyched not to feel like you're camping out in your own house anymore. ; )
See my response to Megan about the bamboo floor. I've read that it's best to have the horizonal surfaces in similar shades and the vertical in similar shades. We're going with dark flooring and dark countertops, with the walls and cupboards light colors.
I am really looking forward to having a functioning kitchen again!!! I'm too old for camping.
The stove is electric. If I were Queen of the World, I'd have a gas cooktop and an electric oven, but where we live the only gas we get is propane, which is quite dear. We use it to heat the house and the water, but that's it. Even with that we use over 1,000 a year (and we're quite conservative with heat, no higher than 68). So electric stove it is.
Awesome kitchen! I would love to redo my kitchen. Alas, just a dream for now . . . ;)
Are you playing Aunt Ev again? I'll see if we can make plans to come. Maybe winkielovegood can come this time. Last year her work schedule wouldn't allow it . . .
I'll definitely let you know if we're coming and stop by and say hi! :D
Yep, playing Auntie Ev. I also am quite proud of the new costumes. The director finally believes me about what a difference correct-to-the-period costumes make!
Do come, and drag winkielovegood with you! I'd love to see both of you again!
Thank you! Everytime I get down in the dumps about it, I think of your journey with kitchen renovation. I know it will be finished someday...soon! Today the rebate I got for the countertops came in the mail. I'm headed to Lowe's tomorrow to buy the new kitchen window with it!
