Pleasant surpriseThe 'Mine' phaseTheirs: A certain ring Love what you do Jongup doesn’t like monsters so by default, he decides he doesn’t like Bang Yongguk.
He wakes up late one night, mouth dry like it’s full of cotton candy. He tries to go back to sleep; he’s tired and Appa tells him sleeping is what good boys do (You grow during the night, Jongupie) but his mouth is really uncomfortable and he’s got plenty of time to grow later so he slips out of bed. He reaches back across the mattress for Hyungie, his favourite stuffed bear and hand in hand, they make their way into the hall.
He notices the living room lights are on and he feels a brief wave of excitement because it’s late so Appa must be home after his play-date. Jongup likes it when Appa goes for play-dates because he always gets plenty of cuddles the next day. Maybe now Appa will tuck him back into bed.
He shuffles further down the hallway towards the kitchen, Hyungie trailing along behind him because he’s also tired and he’s much smaller than Jongup. The friction of the carpet on his bare feet keeps his soles warm and Jongup drags his feet a little.
He’s almost at the kitchen door when he hears a noise.
It sounds like Appa and from the way he moans it sounds like he’s in pain. Jongup’s tummy flops. Is Appa ill?
He hurries up a little, wishing he had his superman cape so he could fly to his Appa’s rescue and with each step he takes closer, the more his Appa moans in pain. He wants to look after his father for once.
There’s a monster in the kitchen. He rubs his eyes.
It’s trying to eat Himchan-Appa.

‘Himchan ssi’
Himchan turns away from the boiling kettle to find Yongguk leaning against the doorframe. Yongguk’s arms are crossed over his chest; head tilted slightly to a side and the smile on his face is surprisingly tender. Himchan turns away as the heat of a blush creeps up the back of his neck and stains his cheeks. He hums softly, letting Yongguk know he heard him as he spoons coffee and sugar into two mugs. The butterflies in his stomach have gotten tangled in his throat and formed a lump he can’t quite swallow down.
Behind him Yongguk shifts, the fabric of his shirt rustling as he straightens and comes a little closer. His cologne has notes of mint and amber and when he leans in close Himchan detects something fruity, a crisp burst of citrus. He smells good. ‘Himchan ssi’ Yongguk says again, voice soft despite the rising sound of boiling water. The way he speaks accompanied by the deep husky tone reminds Himchan of melting chocolate. He glances over his shoulder to find Yongguk stood just an arm’s reach away. Fingers curl around his elbow and he turns to lean back against the counter.
‘Can I-’ Yongguk pauses to lick his dry lips. He looks serious and a little afraid. Himchan follows the movement of his tongue with hungry eyes, fingers curling around the edge of the counter top. ‘Can I kiss you?’
Himchan nods.
There’s the slightest tug to the corner of Yongguk’s mouth, stretching his lips to a lazy half-smile as he steps closer. The amber of his cologne is stronger, the mint fading slightly as he reaches up to cup Himchan’s face. His thumbs stroke the skin just beneath his cheek bones, fingertips brushing his hair. Himchan reaches out to curl his fingers into his belt loops, pulling him closer. The gesture makes Yongguk chuckle and he draws in a short breath as he closes the distance. He watches Himchan’s eyes flutter closed before he presses their lips together.
He kisses him once, twice, soft little pecks against slender lips. Five, six and Himchan catches his lower lip between his teeth, tugging him closer still. Yongguk drops both hands to his waist, sliding them beneath the soft material of his blazer to rub circles through the v-neck shirt Himchan is wearing. The younger male squirms beneath his fingers, gasping when Yongguk finds a particularly sensitive spot near his ribs. His tongue finds Himchan’s lower lip, slipping into his mouth and it results in a soft moan.
Himchan’s hands leave his belt loops, one hand fisting the collar of Yongguk’s shirt as the other tangles into his thick black hair. He tilts his head ever so slightly, moaning again when Yongguk’s tongue glides over his own. Yongguk pulls back, leaves a trail of sloppy open-mouthed kisses along Himchan’s jaw. His hands fist the soft cotton of Himchan’s top and he presses a kiss to Himchan’s earlobe. The way his breath puffs out against Himchan’s ear drives the younger crazy, sends shivers down his spine and Himchan tugs needily at his hair. Yongguk ignores him in favour of peppering kisses along his throat.
‘What are you doing to Appa?’
They break apart, chests heaving and Yongguk bows his head slightly as he steps back. Himchan slips passed him, skin flushed and goes to pick up the small four year old. ‘Jongupie, what are you doing up?’ Himchan coos, pressing a kiss to the boy’s forehead.
He’s cute, much cuter than Yongguk had expected. His black hair sits askew and his pyjamas are rumpled from sleeping. In one hand he clutches a teddy bear whilst the other rubs at his tiny, half open eyes; he’s so tired he can’t even keep one of them open. He’s not much bigger than Yongguk’s son.
He watches for a few moments as Himchan talks to the little boy, coaxes him into telling him why he’s awake. His hands run through his hair, gently combing it back into place and his voice has this soft edge to it that makes something swell in Yongguk’s chest. Himchan seems like a good father and Yongguk finds himself wondering if maybe he could be - No, he shakes his head slightly. It’s too early for that.
‘Jongupie, this is Appa’s friend. Yongguk ssi’
Yongguk smiles at the little boy, noticing they seem to be done with their conversation. For several moments the boy just stares at him, his small innocent eyes blinking rapidly to stay open. Jongup buries his face into Himchan’s shirt with a small grunt. He’s clearly too tired.
‘I should go’ Yongguk says. It’s a little after ten and he doesn’t want to leave yet but Jongup is awake and it’ll be harder for Himchan to put him to bed with Yongguk around. Junhong always takes twice as long to go to sleep when he has visitors over. A flash of disappointment sweeps over Himchan’s face and it helps make leaving that little bit easier, at least Himchan doesn’t want him to go either.
‘My mother has Junhong for the night so I should make the most of it. I can’t remember the last time I slept in’ He says as an explanation. Himchan laughs, giving a small nod of understanding. Jongup always wakes up early in the morning too. They both glance down at the small boy who still refuses to look at Yongguk and Himchan decides to settle him down on the sofa with a glass of water and a promise to be right back.
‘Sorry, he’ll be better next time. He’s just tired’ Himchan says from where he leans beside the front door. He looks good like that, hair falling into his eyes just so and lips quirked into a half smile. Yongguk hesitates for a moment before reaching for his hand and entwines their fingers. Himchan straightens and pulls him into a hug, curling his free arm around Yongguk’s neck. He smells sweet and Yongguk can’t resist pressing a kiss to his soft hair as he snakes his hand beneath the back of his blazer.
‘So there’s going to be a next time, huh?’ He feels rather than sees Himchan’s blush. His cheek is hot where it presses against Yongguk’s neck and he tenses slightly in the elder’s arms. He recovers quickly, using their tangled hands to punch Yongguk’s thigh. ‘And after that?’ hums Yongguk; receiving another punch - much harder this time.
‘Yah, don’t push your luck’ Himchan mumbles into his shoulder.
Yongguk just laughs and kisses him quiet.
