Title: Overdose [1/1]
Pairing: Junseung
Rating: PG13
Genre: Tradgedy, Angst
Summary: Junhyung realises that sometimes love isn't always the best medicine
Notes: I watched 'A millionaire's first love' Last night and this is the result of me watching it. For anyone not familiar with it, the lead character (played by Hyunbin) falls in love with a girl who has a weak heart. Being too happy or too sad could kill her.
Hyunseung doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry when Junhyung slides a glass jar of medicine capsules across their small kitchen table. It reflects in the candle light, a rainbow of plastic dreams. ‘Take one a day’ Junhyung smiles though it doesn’t reach his eyes. Instead they focus on a patch of wallpaper just above Hyunseung’s ear. He can vaguely make out the confused ‘oh’ of Hyunseung’s lips in his peripheral. ‘It’s the best medicine. It’ll cure anything. Even people in America know that much’ He tries to ignore Hyunseung’s sob.
The pills won’t work. They both know they won’t. Hyunseung is dying, far too young and there’s no pills in the world that can stop it. That’s why they’re celebrating the older boy’s birthday now, 5 months too early. Junhyung doesn’t feel much like eating cake right now.
Hyunseung’s chair scrapes back and the boy jumps to his feet. He bows, head low and jar clutched to his chest. ‘Excuse me’ He murmurs, voice haggard and pitchy. Junhyung watches as he turns to their bedroom, the only sound his slippers shuffling along the hardwood floor. ‘Yah, Hyun-ah. Don’t overdose on them’ The door clicks shut behind the older boy and Junhyung buries his face into his hands.
Hyunseung breaks when he reaches their bedroom. He can’t hold it back anymore. He’s going to die and his heart hurts and he’s scared; scared of death, love and everything after he’s gone. He grips his chest with one hand, heart burning in his chest and it’s so damn hot. The floorboards creak just outside the door and he knows Junhyung is there, ready to catch him if he falls.
He screws the silver off with shaking hands - watches as his quivering fingers pull out a red and white capsule. It’s heavier than a normal pill and there’s something yellow inside. He pulls it apart and watches as a small slip of yellow paper falls into his lap.
‘A lifetime wouldn’t have been enough’
Hyunseung scrubs at his eyes, rubs them raw till he wants to cry all over again and sets the note down on Junhyung’s chocolate brown duvet. He reaches for the next pill, Junhyung’s warning swirling through his head but one more can’t hurt. Can it?
‘no matter what anyone says I want you’
He places the slip of blue paper beside the yellow and reaches for another capsule, then another and another. . Hyunseung’s chest hurts even more. Junhyung said one a day but what if he doesn’t live that long. Each one reveals a new phrase, a new thought, on varying coloured scraps of paper like tiny gemstones that glitter at him as he spreads them beside him. He’s already crying again but he doesn’t bother to wipe away the tears anymore.
‘I’ll be better for you’
‘Your smile makes me weak’
‘I didn’t think that love could kill’
He opens the last one with a heavy heart. It hurts so much and it’s hard to breath. This capsule is red unlike the others which were all half white and he wonders what’s so different about this one. It doesn’t look different expect for the colour and it certainly doesn’t feel any different. It isn’t heavier or shinier.
‘I love you’
He lets out a sob. Junhyung loves him. He shouldn’t. They both know it. Hyunseung is dying - could die any day now and every sweet word and affectionate gesture Junhyung carries out brings that day a little bit closer. ‘I haven’t even told him I like him!’ Junhyung’s voice had rebounded around the hospital walls one day. ‘I’m sorry but being too happy or too sad could kill Hyunseung. His heart can’t take it’ It had been hard to hear it. Hyunseung knew he was dying but wasn’t love supposed to make things better?
Warm arms wrap around him, pull him against a slender chest that’s warm and steady. He buries his face to the crook of Junhyung’s neck, feels his pulse against his cheek and holds back another sob. ‘I’m scared’ He clutches at his heart. He’s so scared of dying. Will it be painful? Will anyone remember him? Will Junhyung be ok once he’s gone? Junhyung holds him a little tighter and looks down at the papers spread out beside them, throws a leg over Hyunseung’s thighs and wraps himself around the older boy.
‘I told you not to overdose’
