Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 It’s night time again and Junhyung traces his hands lightly over the angles of Hyunseung’s body. His lips ghost the elder boy’s skin, pale as snow, smooth as velvet and finally, finally he’ll make love to him the way he deserves, the way he wants to. Hyunseung moans, hand tangling into his hair and he pulls him from his chest to connect their lips. They have full control for once. Hyunseung is malleable against him, a marionette doll that lives and breathes and gasps beneath him. His chest rumbles with a purr, arms curling around his shoulders and Junhyung swallows the soft pitches of breath as a hand tickles Hyunseung’s ribs.
‘Junhyung-ah’ Sighs the elder, voice light and airy as a blush stains his face in the darkness. He pushes a little at the younger male’s shoulder, fingers curling around his nape. ‘Junnie, this is embarrassing’ His fingers twist into Junhyung’s hair and tugs the younger away from his earlobe with a soft whimper. ‘Seung-ah, just relax’ Junhyung chuckles, pressing a kiss to the edge of Hyunseung’s thin lips. It’s their first time all over again. It’s taken years of late night talks, a shared bed and over-expressive eyes but finally they’ve come to some sort of unspoken relationship outside of their controlled lives.
Junhyung’s hand barely slides under the hem of Hyunseung’s sleep pants, fingers grazing a gaunt hip bone when the elder cups his jaw, stopping him again. ‘Jun, you really don’t have to’ Hyunseung’s hand trembles against his jaw and Junhyung can feel the tension in the sinewy body beneath him, taught muscles, stiff legs, but Hyunseung’s eyes are large and doe-like and even in the darkness Junhyung can see that the older wants him to continue. He catches Hyunseung’s arm and kisses his wrist, moving to his palm and finger tips. ‘Just let me do this, okay? I need to. I want to’ He emphasizes, nipping at Hyunseung’s inner elbow. Hyunseung throws his head back in response.
He pulls Hyunseung’s cotton pants down slender legs, lips trailing along the inside of his thigh. Hyunseung whines, fingers grasping the sheets and he presses a final kiss to his lover’s ankle as he slides the grey cotton over his toes. Junhyung pauses at the foot of the bed, hands on the hem of his own shirt as he looks down at the man before him. Hyunseung’s chest heaves with gentle pants, pale skin glowing in the dim light and though he makes no effort to meet Junhyung and draw him closer, his boxers are nicely tented and his eyes scream at him. I want you. I need you. Quickly, Please. ‘Junhyung-ah’ His voice snaps his thoughts away from those eyes and Junhyung tugs his own shirt roughly over his head. His black sweat pants pool around his ankles before he climbs back onto the bed. With Hyunseung before him, smooth skin, barely-there muscles and captivating eyes he finds he doesn’t miss the curves of the girls he picked up in bars. In fact, he feels a little sick, a little appalled when he thinks back to it.
He crawls over the other man, lips placing sparing kisses over random patches of skin as he slowly makes his way up Hyunseung’s legs and torso. He makes sure to dip his tongue against the skin just below the elder’s navel, biting at the rim then presses a long, slow kiss to the skin just above his nipple, his heart. His lips graze Hyunseung’s collar bone, fingers dancing on the waistband of his boxers and he pulls away with a happy rumble in the back of his throat. ‘You’re beautiful’ His lips fall back to Hyunseung’s heart. ‘I’m not a girl’ Pouts the other and Hyunseung tries to fold his arms over his chest, head turning on the pillow. Junhyung pins him down with both hands, holding Hyunseung’s wrists against the headboard. ‘I know’ He bites Hyunseung’s adam’s apple to prove his point.
He tangles his hand into Hyunseung’s now straightened hair, feeling the other’s short nails dig into his back. A leg curls lazily around his hip, calf bumping against his butt and he pushes himself lower - closer to the man beneath him. Hyunseung lets out a satisfied noise, pressing his lips to Junhyung’s own and catches the younger’s thick lower lip between his teeth.
Junhyung’s answering moan gets caught in his throat, a sudden tingling down his spine jolts his thoughts and before he knows it the man beneath him is biting down on his lip, hard. They pull away from each other with a yelp and Junhyung presses his fingers to his bleeding lip. ‘What the hell?’ The other man gives a shout beneath him and Junhyung is sent reeling over the side of the bed when the slender man’s fist connects with his cheekbone. His punch is surprisingly strong. ‘What do you think you’re doing? Where am I? You’re some kind of sick rapist, aren’t you?’ The other boy accuses, pulling the bed sheets tightly around his body. Junhyung, still shocked from the sudden punch - the sudden situation, just stares at him blankly for a few moments.
‘No, I’m not. I swear!’ Junhyung throws his hands up and scrambles around for his clothes. Nothing looks familiar. Where are his jeans? His favourite white v-neck? The clothes on the floor and plain and non-descript. A faded blue wife beater, two pairs of sweat pants side-by-side. He grabs the nearest pair, the grey ones and pulls them up over his boxers. ‘I’m not even gay’ He murmurs although the rapidly deflating tent of his pants suggested otherwise some minutes ago. ‘Of course not’ Snorts the other boy disapprovingly. ‘That’s why you were on top of me’ Junhyung flushes and throws the other pair of sweat pants at the boy on the bed, turning his back on him. He presses a hand gingerly to his cheek bone and winces at the pain that shoots through his face. That will leave a bruise.
‘What’s the last thing you remember?’ Junhyung asks once the rustling of fabric stops. He glances over his shoulder and finds the other boy perched cautiously on the edge of the bed, blanket wrapped around his shoulders like a cape. The other doesn’t meet his eyes but he glances away, to the ceiling, to think for a moment. ‘I was - I was walking - I’d just finished work. There was a sign. It looked so inviting’ The man stares suspiciously at Junhyung with narrowed eyes.
Junhyung turns to him, biting his lip. ‘I don’t remember how I got here either’ He says, moving cautiously to the bed. When the other doesn’t react, he sits himself carefully on the end of the bed, lifting one leg up so he can position himself to see the other. ‘I’m Junhyung, by the way’ He picks at a loose thread from the hem of the pants and looks up to see the other shrug. ‘Hyunseung’ He grunts in reply.
There’s music pounding throughout the room, a strong bass line and a powerful, crooning voice. The words are about love and heartache, some mish mash of emotions against fast music but no one really pays attention to the lyrics. It’s just background noise to the rhythm they sway and grind their bodies too. The room smells of sex and alcohol, sweat and fading perfume. There are hands on his chest and one makes a short trip south, brushing the crotch of his jeans teasingly before both arms loop around his neck and the girl in front of him presses up against him. Her breasts are soft and warm as they press to his chest despite the layers of fabric that separate them and as he places his hands on her hips she grinds against his leg.
Her lips press to his jaw, rubbing lipstick just below his ear and he pulls away for air before crashing his lips to hers. There’s a red and black sign that seems to swell under his attention but he can’t really make out the words. ‘Welcome to Reality… See … Your … future today’ Junhyung blinks blearily and rubs at his eyes. There’s a warm soju-induced glow in the pit of his stomach and he smiles lazily against the girl’s lips.
‘Looks fun, doesn’t it’ The girl says some time later when they find a booth to sit in. He quirks a brow, his attention has flittered like a magpie from one shiny thing to the other. Shiny lamp. Shiny dress. Shiny jewellery. Shiny hair. The skull ring on his finger sparkles under the lamp light of the booth and it grins at him, beady little eyes flashing. Welcome to Reality Corps where your life is what we make it. See what could have been or what never will be. Relive the past and experience your future today’ She reads aloud from the flyer just behind Junhyung’s ear. He turns and the words floats off the page. He stares for a moment at the man on the page, surprised by how life-like the image is. His features are manly, sharp eyes, a strong jawline and shortly cropped, spikey black hair.
‘Let’s do it’ He hears himself say although he misses the smirk that passes over her lips as she pulls him into a hug. The music in the club buzzes in his ears. ‘It’ll be fun’ She purrs and runs her tongue over the shell of his ear. Her hand is delicate on his chest and she giggles childishly before pulling him from the booth. ‘Junnie~ Let’s go, let’s go’ He follows like a lamb to slaughter, eyes following slender legs as she leads him out into the cool air and darkened streets.
‘Do you have any idea where we are?’ Asks Hyunseung as he stands up. He pulls the blankets tight around his shoulders and moves towards the windows. He carefully, slowly inches the curtain to a side, peeping at the outside world but its pitch black and he can’t see a thing. He quickly lets the curtain drop back into place. Junhyung glances at him, then to the door which he presumes is the en- suite. ‘I can’t see a thing out there’ Hyunseung sighs dejectedly, sitting back on the bed. Junhyung nods. He sees the unasked demand. Hyunseung wants him to check the en-suite. He bites his lip, wincing at the pain and as quickly as his pounding heart allows him, swings the door open.
He’s greeted by an empty but nicely decorated bathroom. Hyunseung sighs behind him.
He turns around to find the other hovering behind him, a hand extending towards him. Hyunseung blushes prettily as their eyes meet and it seems contagious as a quick heat stains Junhyung’s cheeks. ‘Do you think there’s anyone else around?’ The elder asks, fingers finally closing around Junhyung’s arm. ‘I don’t know’ He shrugs. He scoops the abandoned shirt from the floor and flings it at the other boy. ‘Leave the blanket in here’ If they have to run from a murderer it’ll be easier to escape without the heavy blanket. Once the boy has changed he hears the springs of the mattress and Hyunseung stares up at him from the edge of the bed. His hand trembles as he reaches out for the cool brass handle of the door.
‘Huh- Where are you going, Junnie?’ Junhyung turns back to the male on the bed and he blinks in realisation. He feels the hair at his nape stand on end. ‘It’s happened again’ He states, mouth set in a grim line as he moves back towards Hyunseung. The other boy’s lips fall open in a perfectly surprised ‘oh’ and he latches to Junhyung before he’s even got one knee on the bed. ‘I’m scared’ He murmurs to Junhyung’s chest and the other nods. These black outs have been happening more and more often and Doojoon still doesn’t seem like his old self. Who knows what could happen -
‘Your cheek. It’s red’ Hyunseung reaches up to lightly press his fingertips against Junhyung’s cheekbone, only to have the other flinch away. Junhyung hisses, raising his own hand to feel out the sore spot. ‘It looks like you’ve been punched or something’ Hyunseung draws his face closer and presses a kiss just beside the patch of red skin. ‘Are you ok?’ Junhyung nods and pushes Hyunseung to his back. ‘Bed’ He murmurs, the moment lost.
Hyunseung squirms, dragging Junhyung with him till he’s sat between the younger’s legs, Junhyung’s warm chest against his back and breath ruffling his hair. Junhyung wraps his arms around him, breathing in the smell of his hair. ‘They’re getting longer’ He murmurs, kissing Hyunseung’s neck. ‘I know’ Hyunseung stills in his arms.
The other boy tenses, playing idly with his hand. He stares down at the gold band around Junhyung’s finger and twists it once, twice. ‘I’m in love with you’ Hyunseung says, voice barely above a whisper. He doesn’t look back and Junhyung can’t tell what his expression is but it’s said with conviction and Junhyung finds his head reeling. ‘Good’ He breathes against Hyunseung’s ear and he feels the other melt in his arms. ‘I’m in love with you too’ He wouldn’t have loved Hyunseung before this, he probably wouldn’t have loved anyone. But Hyunseung is a good man and they’re in a situation where dependency gets them through day to day struggles. He’d be lying if he said Hyunseung’s wide eyes and soft features didn’t make his heart flutter.
He reaches with the hand that’s not entwined with Hyunseung’s and cups the other’s jaw, turning his head awkwardly so they can see each other. Hyunseung is blushing. ‘I love you’ Junhyung repeats pressing his lips tenderly to Hyunseung’s. The blush deepens and he feels the other hum against his lips. ‘What the- ’ The brunette stranger in his arm shrieks before everything goes black.
...
Waking up is a slow process for Junhyung. His entire body feels heavy and the lights although dim, are too bright for his sensitive eyes. There’s a steady beeping coming from the heart monitor beside him and he realises belatedly that someone is shining a light in his eye. ‘Mr Yong, are you ok?’ The voice from earlier filters into his ears, hands carefully pulling the ECG stickers from his chest. He hisses as the glue pulls at his skin. ‘I’m afraid there’s been a glitch with the machinery - Your full session couldn’t be carried out. We tried to fix. We thought it was ok but it kept giving out’ Hands touch his face, his wrists, his ankles and he finds himself free to move. He flexes his fingers and rolls his ankles.
‘How long was I asleep?’ He asks, eyes falling to the TV screen in the corner. Welcome to Reality Corp. The woman hums as she checks her watch. He’s startled to realise she’s had enough time to change her clothes. He pushes himself out of the chair and finds himself surprisingly sober though still a little light headed. ‘About 6 hours’ She deadpans. Junhyung feels his jaw drop. He’s been out that long? It seems like barely minutes. ‘How can I have been out that long? I didn’t even see anything - Dream anything’ She blinks at him in surprise, the technician mirroring her expression ‘But you were out for 6 hours. That’s the equivalent to -‘ She reaches for her calculator when the technician cuts her off. ‘Approximately 1215 days. 39 months. Over 3 years’ He supplies. She nods dumbly staring at Junhyung. ‘You don’t remember a thing? Where you were? What happened? Who you were with?’ He tries to think of something, anything and somewhere in the recesses of his mind there’s a boy with brown curls and doe-like eyes. He’s fuzzy around the edges and Junhyung can’t remember his name, his smile but he’s there just barely swimming through his conscious. ‘No, I’m sorry. I don’t remember anything’
‘Junhyung-sshi, I’m sorry about that. Please, come again sometime. We won’t charge you’ She presses a paper cup of steaming hot coffee into one hand, the payment for his failed session into the other. He looks at it for a moment and gives a small nod. He’ll think about it. ‘I should get going’ He sighs, glancing towards the double doors. It’s hard to believe he’s been out so long and he can see sunlight streaming through the windows. Apparently all the machines had broken and several other customers had woken up too early as well. There’d been a few forms to fill out but they were all refunded.
He pauses outside the window, pulling his thick leather aviator jacket a little tighter around him. The coffee is warm in his hands and the slightly bitter smell helps to wake him up. There’s a life sized poster on the window, the same words he’s been hearing written in an eye-catching, crisp font across the bottom. What really catches his attention is the dark skinned man with sharp, cat-like eyes that stares back at him. There’s something oddly familiar about him and for a moment Junhyung wonders if he’s the boy he vaguely remembers. He steps closer for a better look. The eyes don’t look wide enough and he doubts his hair is long enough to curl, despite the fact that it’s entirely wrong colour.
Junhyung wrinkles his nose and takes a step back when something firm and solid collides into him. The coffee splashes against his sleeve and over his jeans and he barely manages to keep himself upright. ‘Oh - I’m so sorry! Here, let me’ A pleasant male voice reaches his ears, sleep thickened and pitchy as hands clasp around his own. ‘I’ll buy you a new one’ The other says as Junhyung tears his eyes away from his ruined jeans and finally looks at the boy.
‘I’ The words die in his throat as he takes in slender lips and snowy white skin. He can see himself reflected in large brown eyes and the package is topped off by a crown of perfect brown curls. It's him. Junhyung’s stomach flips and his hands reach out as if to touch the other but he rethinks it and pins them down to his sides instead. There’s a brief flash of recognition in the other’s eyes and Junhyung is disappointed when it trickles away, just as quickly as it came. The boy cocks his head to a side and takes in Junhyung, his wavy brown hair and designer clothes. ‘Have we met before? You look familiar but…’ The boy stares at him uncertainly and Junhyung feels something he can’t identify in the pit of his stomach.
‘Oh forget it. I’m just being silly’ The boy laughs, a sudden and slightly awkward bark that makes Junhyung jump. ‘No, we’ve met’ He finds himself saying, stepping forwards and reaching out to grasp the other boy’s bicep. His skull ring glints in the light. ‘We’ve met. I just don’t remember where or when’ A blush stains his cheeks and the stranger’s eyes widen. He drops his hand, holding it out to the other boy instead. ‘Why don’t you treat me to that coffee and we’ll try to work it out together’ His heart skips a beat as the other places a cool hand in his own. ‘I’d like that’ The other says, smiling gently. ‘I’m Hyunseung, by the way’.
The End
Notes: Thank you to everyone who has read this. I'm really happy that it went down as well as it did in the reviews because it was something really different to what I usually write and it's my first time writing something so.. dark. It really means a lot to me that everyone has been so nice despite the confusing chapters.
I bet you were expecting smut at first right? hehe sorry
You're probably still a little confused right?
Well for anyone who didn't get it, the basic idea is that Junhyung and Hyunseung willingly put themselves into it. They entered a facility called Reality Corps that basically has these machines that puts you in another reality. Junhyung (and Hyunseung) exerienced just over 3 years in a virtual reality but it only lasted about 6 hours in reality. The machines were faulty which is why the control they had over their own bodies kept coming and going. Hyunseung saw an advert and signed up, the reasons are rather vague and I guess he was just bored with life. Junhyung was drunk and the girl, a worker of the company, was a 'honey trap' who lured Junhyung into doing it.
The black outs were another power failure, sort of like when your computer crashes. The simulation was still running, hence why they were still trapped there but had no recollection of each other because there was nothing to record the data of it if that makes sense. And as one very clever reader
alyssa1515 guessed, the dream sequences were part of what happened when Junhyung signed up. The first was a little vague because of Junhyung's drunken state, the second was a little clearer but a little off because Junhyung was drunk and the third was what really happened.
As for Doojoon, he was just a character in the game. I had originally planned for him to the gamer which
lettherebeminho guessed but my beta wasn't all that keen on the idea and helped me come up with a new one instead.
Anyways, enough of me yammering. Thank you!!!!!!
