Missed Connections
When Junsu steps onto the train he swears he isn't drunk. He's only had two beers and he has enough sense to choose a near deserted carriage as he gets on the train. The fact that he can't take his eyes off the boy opposite tells him otherwise. He realises full well that it's rude to stare but the boy in the leather jacket doesn't seem to mind as he returns his smile.
The boy, Junsu summarises, isn't extraordinarily handsome. He is good looking, with full lips and small eyes, a wide nose and near perfect skin, save for a small patch of blemishes on his left cheek but Junsu doesn't see anything out of the ordinary in his features. His hair is dark, short and messy from too much ruffling and sticks to his forehead with sweat. Junsu presumes he's an athlete of some kind, dressed in sneakers, baggy pants and a hoody with a worn leather jacket for extra warmth.
The old man in the far corner of the carriage burps and mutters something incoherent to the two men before he blinks and settles back into sleep, sliding down the window as the train moves. The boy in the leather jacket stares wide eyed for several long moments before turning to Junsu, a dazzliing smile splitting his face. Junsu feels the air escape his lungs and fights to stay calm as he recovers it. He hopes the boy doesn't notice and unconsciously pulls at the collar of his jacket, covering his chin.
Junsu finds himself mezmerised by the other's smile, his own growing every time the boy catches his eye. His skin flushes some and he blames it on the beer. He tells himself that it's because he hasn't had anything to eat, the beer sitting in his empty stomach with nothing to soak it up. The way his heart feels like it could burst through his ribcage and straight into that boy's lap at any moment isn't related to that smile either.
He watches for a while, tries to read the signs to make sure he's not flirting with someone who's trying to be friendly but after twenty minutes or so, he figures the lingering glances and mutual blushes may as well be a neon pink sign or a fully lit runway urging him full steam ahead.
He's going to talk to him.
Junsu draws in a breath and readies himself, pulling again at his collar to stop himself fidgeting. He turns over different things in his head, looks for the right thing to say that won't make him sound like a pervert or an idiot and gives himself a quick encouragement. 'I am Kim Junsu. I am successful and hot. I am Kim Junsu'It doesn't really help.
Junsu decides the fate is against him as he starts to speak because at the very moment he sits forwards and opens his lips, the carriages is filled with the voice of JYP and his new hit song. The other man fumbles for his phone, patting down his pockets whilst the drunk in the corner grumbles something and falls back to sleep.
Junsu bites his lip, tries to stop himself from growling as he watches the other's smile widen further, his attention completely stolen. Junsu sits back and pulls his collar up further till it reaches the top of his nose and hides his pout. He supposes he should be grateful as he listens to the boy speak which results in a strange sensation that he can only identify as a 'tingle' travelling down his spine. He pulls out his own phone to look busy and lets his mind wonder to the soft lilt of the other's voice.
It's only a matter of minutes before they begin to pull into the next station and the boy shoves a water bottle into a duffle bag at his feet. He catches Junsu's eye and flashes a quick grin as he straightens. Junsu adjusts his collar and returns the smile as the boy glances away, laughing at something the caller has said. Junsu sends out a silent prayer for the phone to break or the battery to die but sadly neither happens.
Panic sets in as Junsu realises the phonecall isn't about to end and the boy is on his feet, hauling his bag to his shoulder whilst trying to keep his balance. Junsu wants to say a million things but can't bring himself to do it as the boy begins to move. He hates that phone and whoever is on the other side of it. His lips move, open and close like a fish out of water for several moments and all too soon the boy is nearing the exit. He glances up, wills his voice to come out and make some kind of sound but all that escapes is a strangled moan and Junsu's cheeks are quickly become red as the boy pauses and stares at him. 'A simple "wait!" would of been enough', he thinks to himself bitterly.
He dares a glance the boy as the doors hiss open and feels his blush deepen tenfold as brown eyes rake over him. The boy in the leather jacket grins, lopsided and seductive before he winks and steps off the train and onto the platform. Junsu's sure his heart just followed him and turns to watch out of the window as the boy walks towards the exit, shoulders inching up and down in quiet laughter. It's definitely the beer, he reasons to himself as he watches the boy get lost in a crowd. Kim Junsu does not fall in love at first sight.
End.
