ADMIN: Angst & Prompts

I've noticed a couple of comments made in FB over the course of this challenge that I think should be addressed:

What is an angsty fic? Of course each of us have our own level of angst we require before we actually *feel* the angst, so whether a fic is angsty will necessarily be subjective for each fic we read. However, I saw someone once claim

Hm, I then have the symmetric question for schmoop: what is a schmoopy fic? Because I agree with you on the definition of angsty fic, so I imagined that a "schmoopy" fic can have a sprinkling of angst too. Or at least that it doesn't have to be all saccharine, as I used to think "schmoop" meant. Please correct me now if I'm wrong, before I post. :D

Of course you do, lol! Because I was asking myself as I wrote the above, hmm, does that mean a schmoopy fic doesn't require a happy ending?! I'm not actually sure that would work - we would need to challenge folk to write a schmoopy fic that doesn't have a 'happy ending'. *g*

Again, it's all subjective, the level of saccharine, as you say, we each need before we feel the schmoop factor has been met. But I don't see any reason why you can't include a smidge of angst in your fic, so long as the overall feel (to each individual reader) is SCHMOOP!!! You know? Make any sense? Basically, if you think it's schmoopy, then go for it! As the author, you really need to make the first call.
