Prompt 97: Accident
Category: Gen
Rating: K+
Word Count: 300 (I'm not counting the *** as a word.)
Summary: Charlie doesn't think this curse business has a leg to stand on.
Disclaimer: Characters are so not mine. I'll reluctantly lay claim to have had the accident this drabble is based on.
Charlie glared across the dining room table at Don.
"This is ridiculous," he said.
"I'm tellin' ya, Chuck, there's a curse going around. You're the only one who hasn't been affected," Don said with an air of bemusement.
Alan stared at his firstborn. It seemed to him that Don was at least half serious about this curse business.
"Donnie, tell me your joking," he said.
Don shrugged. "Sorry, Pops," he said. "It seems like everyone we know has injured their legs recently." He gestured towards Alan. "You've been hurt twice!"
Alan rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Maybe Charlie's in the clear," he said. "Since I got two injuries, maybe I blocked fate's shot at him."
Charlie gaped. "Dad!" he yelped. "Not you, too!"
Alan said. "A scientist has to take all the evidence into account, Charlie."
Charlie started pacing. "I can't believe you two," he complained. "How can you even pretend to believe that..." He caught his heel on the carpet. He fell. Hard.

The team gathered at the hospital, all agog.
"So, Charlie got whumped by the leg curse, too?" Colby asked Alan.
"Well," Alan said. However, before he could say more, Don arrived, pushing Charlie in a wheelchair.
"So, what happened?" Megan demanded.
"I. Hit. My. Head," Charlie huffed. Then he winced and touched the side of his head. "I have five stitches."
"Ow, that's nasty" Liz said.
Charlie looked pained, and yet triumphant. "So much for the leg curse."
Don gave the wheelchair a shove. "Oh, yeah, smart guy? Tell them in detail how you got hurt."
Charlie glared at him.
Don smirked. "Go on, unless you want me to tell your doctor that you're having short term memory loss."
"All right." Charlie looked unhappy as he confessed. "I hit my head on the dining room table leg."
