After wiping her lips and setting the napkin down, “That,” Sarah pronounced, “was delicious.”
“That,” Colby said, “was a hamburger.” He was enjoying himself. Not only was she a great conversationalist, but she also had a terrific laugh.
Sarah snorted.
And a cute snort, Colby amended. All the makings of a super girlfriend.
“Trust me,” Sarah said, “there are so many ways a burger can be ruined.” And I’ve probably either cooked or been served most of them.
“True.” He looked across the table to her. “So, having fun?”
“Yeah,” honestly. This is nice. Quiet. Peaceful.
But not safe. We’re never safe.
Ever.
“Great, because you haven’t lived til you’ve had their desert.”
I think even the T-1 would see the irony there. I just hope you don’t have to, Colby.
