Usually I get really bored by the 14 hours of musical montages and numbers durin an oscar telecast, but this year, I was actually pretty chuffed. Okay, the “Musicals are back!” number seemed gratuitous, but…the best song nominees? A.R. Rahman, Peter Gabriel and A.R.Rahman

Except for the "musicals are back" bit I actually enjoyed it a lot more this year-- Hugh Jackman was charming and I didn't realize how ridiculously talented Wolvie was, the Steve Martin and Tina Fey bit was hysterical, and overall it wasn't too long.

Still wish Mickey'd won best actor, but oh well...

I think they finally did something right when it came to keeping to show shorter. In the past they tried lame tricks like making the mic sink down into the stage if somebody talked too long, or having the least popular winners sit in the balcony and give their acceptance speeches from there. This year, they finally got it right and had presenters give out multipule awards, instead of one at a time (i.e. - Will Smith gave out like four different awards).

I liked how they had actors who won talk about and praise the nominees, too. It made it a lot more intimate.

Surprisingly, Legend managed to sound a bit like Gabriel.

So that was actually the only part of the Oscars I saw (and against my will at that, I'm not an Oscars kinda guy) - but I knew that when all those Indians started running around banging on drums and shit, that you were probably sprouting a semi. I think I actually commented on that, much to the confusion of my roommates.
