I've been watching Godzilla videos lately, pondering the possibility of running a game based loosely on the Godzilla universe at Ambercon NW with players taking the roles of an elite giant monster hunting team: The International Giant Monster Defense Force ( Read more... )

Don't know if you've read much Exiles, but they had a fun riff on the Marvel Universe where a bunch of scientist characters (Tony Stark, Henry Pym, Bollivar Trask, I think Reed Richards) were not superheros but were instead Science Heroes. And they fought giant monsters like Fin Fang Foom and Krakoa. It was probably the best issue the series has produced.

While I'm largely past the desire to run "combine Amber with Setting X" games, I could see the appeal in a game where the princes of Amber were a science team dealing with giant monsters of Chaos.

I had been thinking of combining my desire to run a "Brave New" game with my desire for Kaiju action. Perhaps "Brave New Savage Land" with the Savage Land being the giant monster island?

I have not read much Exiles but since I love Elseworlds/What Ifs so much, I decided to pick up Volume 2 of Exiles today.

I, too, am done with 'Combine Setting X with Amber' games, but the idea still occured to me.

Oh yeah, another idea I am considering: Brave New Zombies!! Take the Marvel Zombies concept and set it a combined DC/Marvel world with a Zombie Justice League being the first to succumb to the Zombie plague.

In that one, you'd be welcome to play Ash. :D

One of my friends (Liz Henry, actually, John Kim is her husband, they'll both be at ACNW this year) did what I think was probably the most awesome kid's party idea I've ever heard of: spray-painted a variety of thin cardboard food boxes grey, set them up in a city, and had the kids be Godzilla-class kaiju monsters who got to go through and trample the city. Woo! Probably way too much prop work for a con, though. ;)

Definately too much for a con game, but it sounds fun!
