By the time this came out, I had already stopped buying X-Men. It's probably a good thing. Because this would have definitely caused me some unhappiness...
I remember that panel though I only vaguely recall the comic. The Genosha stuff was pretty much what broke the camel's back for me way back then. Superhero comics had gone entirely into a loop of cheap emotional manipulation with the X-men getting killed over and over and over again, getting tortured and abused only for the comic to turn around and go "Nah, I'm only kidding! Nothing bad happened, we just made it seem like it did to get you to care! Fooled you!". I just stopped caring. It wasn't even something-horrific-happens-that-will-affect-everyone's-lives-at-the-end, but bad, bad, bad, bad, stupid, bad, crap art, bad, are you still reading this, bad, stupid. I vaguely recall that this bit too was never mentioned after the Genosha arc. Because you know, why would you treat superhero comics like a genuine media and invest in proper character development. Ok, sorry for the rage. :)
