As a 2LT, a lot depends on what you want. I'd avoid Bliss and Polk like the plague. I'm partial to Bragg for the hunting and fishing, but Wainright and Richardson offer even better hunting and fishing except for the C-5 and C-17 sized mosquitoes that 'love me long time'. Shafter is an old but still gracious lady and Schofield Bcks has some wonderful scenic places and so long as you live on post offers some neat off-duty attractions, like side trips to PTA (Goat & Mouflon Sheep hunting). East Range has some big feral pig hunting. There's some neat MWR facilities and a good aero-club (or it used to be) there's SCUBA diving (not as good as the Red Sea, Thailand or a few other places but not bad. Then there's the other ocean sports like sailing. Too many haole surfers from the mainland these days. But get out a mile or so, and its cool. If you got to settle, Ft. Hood is ok, Lost in the Woods is better. But I'd go for Carson over Hood or Leonard Wood. Either way, I wish you luck.
All depends what you want. Quality of civilian attractions? Quality of on-post facilities? Opportunities to deploy?
If the latter two are high on your list, Drum is a secret gem. There's no newer operational post in the Army in terms of facilities. Better than 50% of the post has been built in the last 15 years, and much more is being built now. Plus the 10th Mountain deploys at a rapid rate, to both theatres.
That said, you'd be nuts not to take Germany. Rarely, if ever, again will you be paid handsomely to live in the heart of central Europe. Having spent lots of time there, it's absolutely worth it.
