It's been a while since I've watched the canon, but the background and personality look pretty sound. (Though, dude, I didn't realize Han was stuck in the carbonite for a whole year. o_O)
I kind of like how the surreal transitions of a dream seem so clearly off to him since, as a walking computer, I doubt he dreams normally if at all. So that's a nice detail.
That does lead me into one thing, though. Is it okay for him to know he's "a protocol droid specializing in translation" right out of the box? It kind of falls somewhere between knowing "I'm [insert species]" (which most seem to) and knowing whether or not they were, say, an accountant. But if the files were left in tact for future access, being a robot, it kind of makes sense that he would be able to access them whenever. :|9
That's really my only quibble, though, since the voice is accurate and the rest is quite sound.
I'm not hugely into Star Wars, but I was able to follow along, and it seems consistent enough.
And I agree with Kris on how much he knows right off the bat--to me, it seems too much like someone else knowing their occupation. I'm reminded of Twin's Aizen stating he was a lord and an illusionist in his very first entry.
Aside from that, though, I'm willing to vote yes if those who know canon are happy with it.
I'd suggest dialing back the specifics of what he knows about himself, but it wouldn't take much to be fine. Aside from that, I think this app is fantastic and I vote yes.
I know you guys already made a decision but my suggestion is that we tell the mun to lose the translation bit and let her keep the protocol droid part. This is because we already let R2D2 in knowing he's an astrotech droid so...being picky here is kinda...late?
I also tend to see their function (ie protocol droid) a bit like Ghost knowing he's a Black man or Tian knowing he's a dragon. They may not know the full context of what that means but it's kinda basic identity knowledge that people tend to keep.

Oh, yeah, that's fine with me (and more or less what I thought we meant by 'just a droid', but my mind and communication skills have been fried lately.)
Basically, it's just the knowing he's a translator that was 'meh' to me since that's occupational. So I'm fine with this decision. o/
