CHARACTER INFO
CHARACTER NAME: Rapunzel
SERIES: Tangled
RESERVED: No
WISHLIST: No
PERSONALITY:

Rapunzel
is a friendly, sweet and innocent young woman. In fact, it’s very fair
to go so far as to say she’s naïve. She very literally knows almost
nothing about the world around her and it terrifies her. However, when
the things she believes in or her friends are threatened, Rapunzel
becomes very brave indeed as shown when the thugs in the Snuggly
Duckling start to fight over Flynn.

She’s also a fairly
intelligent young woman, for someone who only owns three books after
eighteen years. Her education is surprisingly advanced and is talented
in areas such as baking, music and astronomy. She even went so far as to
paint a completed astrology chart on the wall of her tower. Painting
is, obviously, her greatest passion

Her determination is most
noteworthy, in her personality. Her fear and lack of understanding of
the outside world did not stop her when she wanted to see the lanterns.
She convinced Flynn, through the threat of a frying pan beating, to take
her to the lantern and then she would return his satchel with the
crown. When her “mother” found her in the forest after Flynn
went to find firewood, she was stubborn and still determined enough to
outright refuse returning to the tower with her mother.

Aside
from all that, Rapunzel is a very charismatic young woman, having lead a
group of thugs in the Snuggly Duckling in song in regards to their
dreams. This also built up a slight friendship with those very same
thugs as, later, they helped Flynn escape prison so he could save
Rapunzel. She’s also very excitable, some things making her jump around
in glee or to start a dance among everyone around her.

TIMELINE:
Just after discovering that she’s the lost princess, before confronting
Gothel about it so she still has an obscene amount of hair.
BACKGROUND:

Several
centuries before Rapunzel was born, a single drop of sunlight fell to
the earth. From it, grew a magic golden flower. Mother Gothel found this
flower and, by singing to it, restored her youth. She hoarded
its powers for a few hundred years and in that time, the kingdom of
Corona evolved. There, a king and queen ruled and the queen became
pregnant. Near the end of her pregnancy she grew ill, and the king sent
out his soldiers and any willing volunteer to find the magic flower. In a
rush to hide it as soldiers approached, Mother Gothel knocked over the
bush disguising the flower that was hidden under and it was found.

Returned
to the kingdom, the flower was placed in a bowl of water and merged
with it, making a golden tea. After drinking it, the queen grew healthy
once more and gave birth to a little girl with hair the color of the
sun. In celebration, the king and queen sent a lantern into the night
sky for their daughter. That night, Gothel broke into the castle and
attempted to cut a piece of Princess Rapunzel’s hair, discovering that
cutting it removed the magic. It was then that she kidnapped Rapunzel
and hid them both away in a tower
in the woods.

There she raised the little girl by herself,
telling her horrific stories about the outside world so she’d never be
curious enough to leave. Which meant that the magic would belong to
Gothel forever. Even still, those stories may have scared her but they
could never stop Rapunzel’s curiosity and each year on the night of her
birthday, she watched the floating lanterns rise into the sky, feeling
that they were for her though she didn’t even realize that truth of it.

Years
pass, and Rapunzel is about the celebrate her eighteenth birthday. And
she finally works up the nerve to ask her mother to take her to see the
floating lights. Gothel refuses, going into song about how “mother knows
best” and that Rapunzel is naïve and incapable of fending for herself
outside, as well as other statements meant to belittle the girl. Still,
Rapunzel didn’t falter. After her mother left to gather ingredients for
dinner, Flynn
entered the tower and Rapunzel knocked him silly with her frying pan
and hid him in her closet. After her mother returned, she tries again to
ask to see the lanterns onto the have Gothel scream at her. Hurt,
Rapunzel makes and excuse that she thought of something better and asked
for paints made from white shells. To get them, it’s a three day trip
and Gothel agrees.

After she leaves, Rapunzel removed Flynn from
the closet and tied him to a chair, convincing him to take her to see
the lanterns. It took some time, and a couple threats of beating him
with her frying pan, but he agreed. They left almost immediately and, in
the beginning of their journey, Rapunzel is a bit at war with herself,
trying to decide whether or not to keep going or to go home. Flynn’s
offer to take her right back to the tower however made her decision and
she tells him that they are absolutely continuing. It is then that Flynn
decided to take her to the Snuggly
Duckling and scared her halfway to death with all the thugs inside.

However,
she inspired them all into admitting their dreams and, when the guards
and Maximus (the horse) arrived, the thugs assisted Flynn and Rapunzel
in escaping along a hidden tunnel. They got a fair head-start however
the horse quickly caught on and lead the guards along it after them.
Coming out into a large dam, Flynn and Rapunzel quickly try to make an
escape however Flynn ended up fighting the guards and the horse using
the frying pan as a weapon. Along the way, Maximus ended up breaking
open the dam. Running into what they thought was a tunnel, Rapunzel and
Flynn were trapped with no light and water rapidly rising. Flynn ended
up cutting his hand trying to find something loose for them to get out,
quickly admitting his real name to his companion and the
frog Pascal, and it was only just before the tunnel completely
filled that Rapunzel remembered her
magic hair and sang quickly, lighting the tunnel up. This gave them the
chance they needed to loosen enough rocks under the water to escape
imminent death.

That evening, Rapunzel wrapped her hair around
Flynn’s hand and sang, healing the cut he got. Afterward, Flynn tells
her a bit about himself before going to find more firewood. It was then
that Gothel approached Rapunzel and tried to convince her to return to
the tower with her. However, by now, Rapunzel had grown a bit more
willful and refused, knowing that now she absolutely had to see the
lanterns with Flynn. Gothel berates her a bit before giving Rapunzel the
crown, saying that if she gives it to Flynn, he’ll be gone in a
heartbeat and that she shouldn’t go crying to her when she finds out
it’s true. She left just after and Flynn returned.

The next day,
they were woken by Maximus and Rapunzel convinces the horse not to turn
Flynn in for at least another day so she can have
the perfect birthday. Soon after, they entered the kingdom of Corona.
Rapunzel’s hair proved to be an inconvenience and Flynn found a group of
young girls to braid it for them. Flynn shows her around town, buying
her a small Corona flag. Rapunzel saw a mural of the king and queen with
their daughter and while there was a bit of familiarity to her, she
didn’t think much of it and went on to start dancing in the town square
with everyone (literally, she got everyone involved) and coloring on the
ground in chalk with a group of children.

As the sun set,
everyone was called to the boats and the lanterns were sent into the
sky. It was then that Rapunzel and Flynn admitted their love for each
other, and Rapunzel handed over the satchel and crown. The sight of the
Stabbington Brothers forced Flynn to bring them to the shore and
confront them, handing over the crown. However, they no longer had an
interest in it, preferring to take Rapunzel and her
magic hair instead. After knocking Flynn out and tying him to the helm
of a boat directed towards a guard post, they approached Rapunzel and
tried to kidnap her. However, when she ran, Gothel beat them to “save
her” though it was set up by her all along. They return to the tower,
Rapunzel heartbroken at Flynn’s apparent betrayal.

There, Gothel
removed the braid and flowers from her hair, erasing all evidence that
the trip had happened except for the flag that Rapunzel was still
clutching. After she left the room, Rapunzel laid back and stared at her
ceiling, noticing something familiar about some of the things she
painted and the symbol of Corona. Staring at them all, Rapunzel had a
sudden and dizzying flashback to when she was a baby, looking up at the
symbol of Corona (the sun) on the mobile above her crib and then at her
parents. Rushing out of the room, Rapunzel confronted Gothel angrily and
saying that she would never let the woman use
her or her hair again.

This forced Gothel to chain Rapunzel and
gag her until Flynn arrived to save her. Gothel stabbed him, giving him a
fatal injury. Fighting against her “mother” Rapunzel made a deal that
if she was allowed to heal Flynn, she’d cooperate with Gothel. After she
agreed, Rapunzel went to do so, only for Flynn to use a shard from a
broken mirror to cut Rapunzel’s hair. The sudden lost of magic made
Gothel age rapidly and die and then, so did Flynn. Weeping for the man
she loved and admitting that he was her new dream, she sang the healing
incantation softly and a tear fell onto his cheek. The tear was absorbed
and gold light erupted from his wound, a light quickly flashing to show
the flower that had been used eighteen years before and then Flynn is
alive and healed.

The two returned to Corona and presented
themselves to the king and queen. Rapunzel was welcomed home with an
embrace from both parents, which the
queen pulled Flynn into as well. The kingdom celebrated the return of
the princess for a week and it is later revealed that Rapunzel and Flynn
were married.

ABILITIES:

70 feet of
hair: Which she uses for swinging, typing people up, opening doors,
reaching impossible distances and lifting people up her tower. The
follicles, after eighteen years of doing this, are incredibly strong so
pulling her hair shouldn’t hurt unless you really put some effort in it.

Magic
hair: When she sings a certain song… her hair glows. The power for this
comes from the sun, literally. Centuries before Rapunzel was born, a
single drop of sunlight fell to the earth and created a magic glowing
flower. The years past, the queen got pregnant but also got sick and the
flower was used to heal her. That power passed onto Rapunzel. So her
hair was gold instead of the brunette her parents had and it can heal
wounds that range from paper cuts
to fatal injuries to restoring the youth of crazy women who are
obsessed with immortality.

Magic tears: If her hair gets cut,
guess what! Her tears heal too! They, presumably, have to be fresh tears
though, straight from the eyes of a crying ‘Punzel. Since the magic her
hair possessed was at first believed just to be in her hair, it turns
out the magic comes from her heart.

Strength: For a girl of
eighteen and with a lithe frame like hers, Rapunzel has a surprising
amount of strength. She’s able to lift Mother Gothel from the bottom of
her tower to the top by using her hair as a lift. She’s also completely
unhindered by the seventy-feet of hair she has trail behind her or when
she carries it. Either her hair, with it’s magical properties, is
weightless to her or her apparent strength and speed have given her the
ability to run and move without difficulty.

EDENSPHERE NAME: Magic
BIRTHDAY LOG: Yes please!
DREAM:

“You're being strangely cryptic as you wrap your magic hair around my injured
hand...” Just those words and then the image of a young mans hand, with
golden hair wrapped around it, fades to her singing and watching the
night sky.

“Flower gleam and glow, let your power shine. Make the
clock reverse, bring back what once was mine.” She sang softly,
brushing out her hair while a young man sat nearby. Around him, she felt
safe and she trusted him enough to let him see. What he was seeing, she
wasn’t sure but it didn’t matter. She knew he wouldn’t betray that
trust, instinctively.

“Heal what has been hurt, change the Fates design. Save what has been lost, bring back what once was mine~ What once what mine.” She assumed it was a lullaby, it was relaxing enough. Especially with all those pretty lanterns floating up into the sky, to the stars. Everything felt absolutely… perfect. She wanted to dance, she wanted to sing some more.

JOURNAL SAMPLE:

Oh wow, a magic journal. This is so neat! It’s like my hair only I don’t have to brush it.

Hi everyone in Edensphere! My name is Magic, I can’t wait to get to know you~

I can’t think of anything else to write, but that’s okay. I’ve got plenty of time.

ASPIRATIONS:

Make friends, lots of them. And swing around with her hair. Read books
(because she never realized that there are more than three books in the
world) and bake for everyone she can. People should randomly expect
cookies or pies to be delivered after she meets them. Oh yes.

Hi, Casper!

After reviewing your application, we would like to request a re-written or expanded dream. While using scenes from canon is acceptable, we feel that the one you have provided gives Rapunzel too little to go on; remember, a character's dream is all they have upon arriving in Edensphere.

Please feel free to submit your rewritten dream and we will continue processing your application.
