Mid-year Dance

Aug 17, 2008 21:46

When: Saturday Evening, March 24th
Where: Great Hall
Who: Fourth Years and up

The Hogwarts staff is in attendance for supervisory purposes. (Though for Crone's part at least, he's willing to overlook things so long as they don't get out of hand.) Have at! Dance. Be crazy. All of that good stuff.

This was, Remy reflected, one of the very rarest times in his school life, when he was able to go to a school dance with Danny and not actually screw the damn thing up a day before. For the last year or so, he'd managed to wreck every chance he had had to impress the younger boy at a school event, and not lived it down for at least a month afterwards.

He stood now beside the Great Hall doors in the Entrance Hallway, in a nice pair of dark brown trousers and light blue shirt, leaning slightly against the wall and waiting for the Ravenclaw to appear. He knew, guaranteed, that Danny would look stunning. It was just a question, really, of where he was, and when he would arrive.

When he arrived, Danny was dressed in charcoal grey jeans and a long-sleeved, woven shirt in a silvery white. The outfit was completed with his glasses and a herringbone vest -- Danny had decided to dress down so that he would make Remy look better. He smiled when he saw Remy waiting and headed for the other boy, carnation in hand. "Hey you," he murmured shyly.

Jake always loved dances because some how the punch always got spiked. Well maybe he knew exactly how. BUT, he was determined not to do it this time. This time he wanted to try dancing. This time he didn't want to end the night with a date with the toilet. ALSO, the profs were watching the punch bowl like hawks and there was NO WAY Jake was brave enough to try it now.

So instead he was standing with his hands in his robes-- having arrived late and alone-- watching everyone twirl away.

Dancing. It was something she loved to do. You know... when she was alone. Or with a bunch of friends. It wasn't exactly the thing she liked to do with a boy. Because, well, it always got awkward. Like with slow dancing -- all you were doing was stepping around in a circle, your arms around his neck and his arms around your waste. Unless you liked to dance old school, holding one hand and the other-- anyway, that didn't matter. The point she was trying to make was that it was awkward. For her. She never could figure out whether it was better to talk while you slow danced, or to enjoy the moment in silence and listen to the music.

So because of this reason, her silly fear of slow dancing, Tegan almost didn't even come to the dance. It had been a real internal debate. The last dance she'd been asked by Jake and Boyko, though they were both just friendly requests(she thinks), and since it was Boyko she'd ended up saying yes to... well, how could the night be boring with him as your date? Possibly still awkward, but over all it had gone ( ... )

Jake had been surveying the dance floor for people he knew because he was getting incredibly bored just standing here doing nothing. Which is why he flashed Teegan a huge relieved smile and a big wave as he immediately fought his way over to her. Ah, perhaps Teegan would dance with him. It didn't seem that complicated what with the slow dancing. If it got a bit faster he only knew how to crack out the lawn-mower, or the sprinkler... or even the shopping cart. He could do the wave pretty well ( ... )

She had to do another little double take at Jake, because she hadn't caught his smile at wave at first, but when she turned her head again, her smile only grew wider. He was coming over and boy, wasn't that a relief! He'd save her from the embarrassment of standing alone and not having a partner to dance with. Of course she wasn't thinking that he could be her partner, more that they could just stand together and talk or something ( ... )

Secretly Laila was a little depressed she had to be sitting here where all the single girls sat alone and waiting. Now that Ben was getting married and her dreams were crushed she was ready to get over it. What could she have done for him anyway? She was here, he was there. She was a witch, he was a muggle. It would have been too complicated. But she was still extremely depressed about it anyway.

She sighed heavily and rested her chin on her palm and waited for someone to ask her to dance. Really, if no one did she would have to take matters into her own hands. She didn't just spend hours getting ready for nothing!

Tobias hadn't bothered pursuing anyone for this dance. It felt odd to be there alone, he'd always made a point of setting up a conquest in the form of a date at a dance. But even now he found he wasn't bothered going after any of the girls, he wasn't interested. There were more important things to waste his energy on, tonight was all about having a fun time! If anything happened to develop from that, so be it! But tonight was not a night for the chase ( ... )

Laila had never been happier to see Tobias sit down beside her. She popped up with enthusiasm-- Tobias didn't have to tell her twice!
"Oh thank God," Laila said with a laugh, "You're my knight in shinning armor!" And she would never have expected to say that to Tobias.

"Out to the dance floor! Lead the way Sir Kinsella!" Laila bounced behind him ready to start dancing to the fast paced music.

Funny how dances now left Zak with a sick feeling in his stomach. He was standing by one of the drinks tables, looking very relaxed indeed as he surveyed the room with both hands in the pockets of his black slacks. He wasn't sure he was completely comfortable being there, though he certainly looked it leaning against the wall, with his head beating along to the beat of the music being played.

Remy and Danny crossed the Gryffindor's searching gaze, dancing admist the crowd of students young and old. Zak's encounter with Danny had left the older boy thinking. He hadn't spoken to him again since, choosing instead to pay the Ravenclaw no more than a passing nod if he should pass. Zak was conflicted with the whole situation, and was instead going to let the chips fall where they may.

"Taking the 'I'm too cool for you' and unapproachable road tonight, Reso?" Denys asked, eyebrow cocked in a slightly mocking manner. There was no malice in his voice, though, and the smile looked rather pleasant as he glanced at the drinks.

"What's the matter? Not feeling sociable?"

"Something like that," Zak replied dryly, his gaze falling on the Slytherin as he turned his head upon hearing the other boy's voice. He stared at Denys for a moment, memories of the events their encounters usually caused came flooding back to the front of his mind. They rarely ended well.

"These things just aren't appealing anymore." Perhaps he was getting too old for this. He just couldn't enjoy it as he had before. Zak knew he was only feeling this way because he'd been left alone by the drinks table with a bottle of whiskey hidden in his jacket as a napkin. Sharing it by means of punch spiking was no longer an attractive idea, he was preparing to be selfish and drinking the entire thing. And sure, why shouldn't he? His friends all appeared to have ditched him for the night, not that he was about to let this wanker know that. No, as far as anyone else would know, Zak was over large scale events...at least, that would be the story until his the whiskey kicked in.

"Uh-huh. Right." Denys eyed the other boy curiously. "Not appealing anymore." He reached for a cup and poured himself some punch.

The Slytherin probably wouldn't consider a social event very appealing either if he had no one to socialise with, which seemed to be main cause of Zak's lack of fun. Currently, he was enjoying himself, though, despite the lack of a certain redhead by his side. He still sent her letters - the normal kind of letters - and she always wrote back.

"Guess you're glad that you won't have to endure too many of 'these things' anymore." The boy smiled and took a sip of his punch. "There's just one of them left, right?" His gaze drifted across the dancing crowd. "Maybe ask your friend to send you a little 'pick-me-up' to make it less boring," he added, his voice a soft sing-song. "As a graduation gift."

It would've been impolite for James not to turn up to the dance. Especially given his House's participation in its organisation. So there he was, seated at a table off to the side of the dance floor choosing to watch the other students dance instead of taking part himself. The Ravenclaw sighed to himself as he eventually grew bored of the sight.

His attention transferred to his fingernails. James could've been studying in the library if it wasn't for the dance. That would've been a much more preferable existance as far as he was concerned. There would've been quiet, which would mean he wouldn't be experiencing a headache as a result of terrible music.

But alas, here in the dance hall he sat staring at his nails as his ears prepared to bleed.

Celeste remembered all too well what happened the last time she attended a dance. She'd gotten drunk. And made out with a girl. Oh yeah, GOOD TIMES! Only... you know, not so much. She definitely didn't want that type of thing happening twice, though, or else people might begin to suspect something. So she was determined to be on her best behavior. And no matter how hard Rowan tried to get her to drink, she'd only have a sip or two... or three.

She spotted James and smiled, also remembering that he had been a bit of a saving grace the last time. Dancing with a drunkard, what a friend he had been to her. Har. She still felt a bit guilty that she put him through that.

"Good thing you're here," Celeste spoke over the music so he could hear, taking a seat next to him, "You can stop me from making a fool out of myself like last time, right?" She was mostly teasing, a smile on place as she noticed how bored he looked.

James was surprised to see Celeste approach without stumbling. His expression displayed as much as he raised an eyebrow when she sat without the assistance of the table in front of her. "I don't know how successful I was last time," James replied, a smirk tugging at the sides of his mouth as he spoke. He'd honestly been surprised she remembered the last time with such clarity. For as drunk as he thought she'd been, James was impressed.

"Will you be having anything tonight then or is it my night off?" He asked, his tone mocking. James wasn't much of a drinker really. Couldn't be bothered, it was far too expensive a habit. Money was better spent on things of use that didn't cause headaches or self-inflicted embarrassment.

Oh god, was she that bad?? Celeste would not consider herself a drunk by any means, she didn't drink that often. Only on special occasions like this, or during the holidays. Never would she be drinking during school, during the time she was studying and doing her homework. That was just irresponsible and stupid. But even she had to let herself loose once in awhile ( ... )
