Geoffrey was not terribly surprised to learn that Lenore was less than pleased with her work, currently. After all, Nita of all people was considering quiting her job, and while he realized that the Ministry wasn't the same as the Daily Prophet, the way things had been going lately, they might as well be. Still, something to keep in mind. Maybe he should try and milk Howell for information the next time he saw him. Not that his brother was generally very forthcoming about his work, but there was a first time for everything, right?

He perked up significantly when Lenore mentioned the Ashworths, though he was careful not to show his interest. "Ashworths? I might've heard a thing or two," he admitted casually, sipping his Firewhiskey. "What kind of letter did you get?" Best to know whether she was being given an offer or offered a threat before admitting to too much.

Lenore grinned back. "Oh, I'm sure I could come up with something." Keeping Callum occupied enough for the man to stay in one place for a summer, now there was a fun challenge (for however long it might last). A lot of alcohol might be involved. Or maybe just talking. It was hard to say ( ... )

"And what skills would those be, that you want to keep them from rusting?" Geoffrey asked, genuinely curious. Given that Callum was the Defence professor, it seemed possible that the other man had done work along similar lines as Geoffrey did upon occasion (though likely of a more legal nature, but that kind of went without saying).

He met Lenore's look with ease and rolled his own eyes. She just had to rub it in, didn't she? Honestly, he really needed to check out the rest of the Hogwarts' staff and determine how many were antediluvian.

"Tracking skills," Callum replied lightly to Geoffrey's question. "Thanks to Ministry training, I'm good at retrieving lost people. The private sector pays better though." It was't always a good job but it had paid well and having done it for almost a decade left no space for false modesty or shame ( ... )

Yes, it must be hard being Geoffrey Chandler some days.

Lenore shook her head with a smirk, not that she blamed the bloke. He had good taste. Then again, his larger playing field only opened him up to twice the rejection rate.

The mention of running into Callum somewhere in Europe made her smile again. "Now that would be interesting." She wouldn't be surprised in the least if they managed it, down some alley or in a hotel lobby Merlin knew where. Hell, he might even know the girl she was supposed to be watching/tracking/keeping up with- not that she was going to ask. Ashworth wasn't his problem now, not with school out and Lenore thought he rather deserved the break for making it through the term.

Tracking? That was different. Geoffrey had done work in the past as a curse-breaker, deliveryman, messenger, and thief, among other things, but nothing so specific as tracking. It sounded interesting, though - he would have to look into it once he escaped Dumbledore's clutches.

"He lured me in with promises of Alantean wine. I didn't think to expect him of ulterior motives - obviously a mistake on my part - and the next thing I knew I was quite tipsy and willing to agree to just about anything thrown in my direction," Geoffrey lamented, retelling his tale of woe. "First time in years that I've found myself saddled with a steady job, to tell the truth," he admitted. "I don't usually stay in one place for very long."

Had he been able to hear Lenore's thoughts, Geoffrey would have insisted that actually, it was quite easy to be him most of the time. But he couldn't so he didn't.

"Sounds familiar. The old man should come up with new strategies or maybe not since this one works so well." Callum patted Geoffrey on the shoulder sympathetically and reached for his glass. Seeing that it was empty, he rose from his seat to get himself something stronger.

"I'll just pick up a bottle of that," he said with a wink and pointed at the firewhiskey glasses. "No gossiping or disappearing while I'm gone." Laughing he wandered towards the bar.

[Feel free to skip him if you want to. I'll just jump back in tomorrow.♥]

More firewiskey was an excellent idea. Lenore threw on a look of mock disappointment as Callum left with his warning though. "What else am I supposed to talk about then?" she protested.

"Honestly," she said, turning to Geoffrey, "the man should know me better." She smirked and her attention flicked to Callum walking away for a moment before returning to the table and her pockets. If she was going to be staying here for awhile, maybe she would have a cigarette. It wasn't something she indulged in often, but if she was going to be spending the night in the pub anyway, might as well, eh?

"Perhaps it's an exercise to broaden you mind?" Geoffrey suggested, brown eyes twinkling. "Thinking of a topic that does not involve gossip might just prove too trying for you." Not that he was one to speak, really - when he was at a loss for conversation, he generally chose the option of disappearing. Usually to a dark corner, or, even better, a bedroom.
