Personality:
Trip can be a bit wishy-washy, wandering along until something attracts her attention. However, once she's latched onto a project or goal, she will go after it with complete enthusiasm. The same principle applies to people. Trip has a strong sense of empathy, and has learned to trust it implicitly. If she feels that someone is good, she'll hold on to that belief for as long as she can.
Trip has an odd sense of curiosity. She'll take concepts and follow them through to the extreme, without being particularly aware how far the extreme may lie from everyone else's sense of normal. When she was little, she planted everything she could find to see if it would grow into trees and make more. Everything. Luckily, her parents stopped her before she planted her little brother.
Recently, Trip has become interested in muggle stage magicians. Seeing muggles do "magic" cements the idea of a unified world in her mind. She's just started to learn the basics, after researching the field. She can manage a few tricks, and always has a deck of cards on hand to practice with. Eventually Trip wants to become ambidextrous, but hasn't started to train her right hand to be as strong as her left. Her other major pastime is letter-writing, as she stays in regular contact with several family members.
She enjoys margaritas and long walks on the beach. . . wait, that's not right. Trip likes trying new things and sneaking to the kitchen for cake. Trip loves cake, and can be persuaded to help if cake is involved. Especially if it's a type of cake she's never tried before.
Trip doesn't care for sitting around, preferring more energetic activities. She spends enough time in one place between classes, homework, and her letters. She's always up for a new adventure.
Also, she hates turkey.
One idea Trip has unconsciously followed to its ultimate conclusion is unity. She sees her family as one unit with different parts. They manage quite well, so obviously unity can work. This affects her view of the muggle/wizard conflict. She doesn't see two different worlds (i.e., muggle and magical). She thinks of them as one world, just with different attributes.
Naturally, she doesn't agree with pureblood elitists. She knows first hand that muggles can do as much as wizards, using technology instead of magic. Trip would respond to their prejudices with logic, and try to talk them around to her point of view. She might also feel bad for them- obviously they're a bit slow if they can't see that muggles are just as good as wizards.
Any skill she has, Trip will exert in order to help those she loves. She gets protective and does not tolerate slurs against them well. For example, her family has earned that loyalty, so "Your mom" is not a smart comeback when arguing with Trip. However, because her devotion so is focused, any indication of discord will send Trip reeling. Sure every family has its arguments, but they're not really mad at each other, right?
Strengths: Both magical and personality:
While she has no outstanding talent yet, Trip can keep up her grades with regular attention to homework. Charms and Divination are her best subjects.
She views Charms as a unique wizarding skill and the quintessence of magic. Charms is also the kind of magic that magicians pretend to work, and Trip has recently taken in interest in stage magic. Between this fascination and its immediacy Trip loves Charms and loves practicing. Divination also interests her, as she likens reading signs to pieces of an untold story. Trip does best when reading the fortune of someone she knows, as she's able to use her intuition to provide a more accurate reading.
Trip thinks of Potions as magical cooking. Since she spent many happy hours at home cooking with her family, she feels comfortable in the dungeon, stirring a cauldron. She just changes the focus of task- instead of combining flavors, she combines magical ingredients. Arithmancy is more like a puzzle, and Trip lets herself get so involved she becomes determined to solve it.
Another strength is her family. Her family provides a strong support network, reinforced by regular communication while she's at school. Trip is the kind of person who flourishes with lots of love, and she's beginning to realize how important it is to her. With the war on, she understands that things can go wrong, so she cherishes her family even more.
Also, her parents have taken care to raise Trip in both the wizarding and Muggle worlds. She has always been comfortable around her family, regardless of which situation she was in, so she has never felt any awkwardness from the transition. Trip has learned how to be discreet about magic and muggle technology, but doesn't see the environments as being that different.
Trip has learned to be light on her feet. Apparently some people take her name as an invitation. Her early piano lessons (on her grandmother's insistence) have also given her a degree of manual dexterity. This has helped Trip with her sleight of hand tricks.
Weaknesses: Both magical and personality:
She is abysmal at Herbology and (and theoretically Care of Magical Creatures) due to her complete lack of talent with plants or animals. In fact, the only pet she is currently allowed at home is a pet rock, due to a drastic increase in pet funerals a few years ago. She does have an owl, but he's less of a pet and more of an associate. Trip doesn't get why her pets don't last long- she's very careful to take extra extra extra good care of them! Her parents will testify that that's probably the reason they don't last long. Trip's enthusiasm is admirable, but misplaced.
Lately she's given up on pets, so she's redoubled her efforts with plants. Which is why she's thrilled with Herbology, seeing it as a chance to redeem herself. However, Trip's thumbs are black instead of green. She has tried to care for a variety of plants, all without success.
Trip does alright in her other classes, but nothing to brag about. She finds both Astronomy and History of Magic boring, so doesn't exert much effort. Transfiguration requires some complex theory, and Trip gets easily mixed up without a lot of studying. As far as DADA goes, it's probably Trip's least favorite class. She feels bad for the creatures they study. She does fine with the theory end, but is a reluctant participant in the practicals.
Also, she has little to no realization of fear- making her very foolhardy in dangerous situations. She might escape the bullet, but the bullet train coming at her wouldn't register until the last minute. She is more than willing to plunge headlong into trouble, because she honestly doesn't see how things could go wrong. This becomes a problem when she's around others, as Trip generally doesn't get into trouble on her own.
While Trip's perspective of harmony works for her, it does make her naive. She can be deceived and badly hurt if someone abuses the goodwill she so readily offers. She will only fight if really pushed to the limit.
Fears/Motivations:
Trip is mostly motivated by loyalty, especially to her family. It is such a central part of her life that she relies heavily on their approval and praise. Conversely, her greatest fear also comes from her family- either losing them or (even worse) being exiled from them. This fear goes unstated, as Trip can't conceive of being alone.
Trip doesn't like conflict, so she either shies away or tries to reconcile things as quickly as possible.
History:
Trip was raised in Ireland surrounded by a large loving family. Although only one of 3, she has always had plenty of cousins and relatives around to play with or turn to for help.
Trip has traveled around a bit, routinely visiting relatives (both muggle and magical) for school breaks and holidays. When she 6, she got a special treat when her Uncle Da took her to London for a week.(She found out later that her little brother was seriously sick, and both she and her other brother were sent away in case it was contagious.)
Trip started at a muggle elementary school when she was 6, and continued until she received her Hogwarts letter. She got decent grades, but nothing special. She has a few friends from school, but doesn't really keep up with any of them.
Her father is Orin Lynn, age 48. While Orin tends to be serious, he is an excellent father and always makes sure his family is taken care of.
Her mother is Maeve Lynn, nee Cox. She is 47.
Trip's parents were married in 1985. Over the past few years, Orin and Mara have started their own business.
Her family runs a discreet business in muggle/wizard realty. Specifically, they purchase and prepare muggle lands/houses for wizard use. Orin is the lawyer attached to the realty office who specializes in contracts. Maeve takes on the realty aspect, finding the properties and getting buyers. Maeve has a talent for finding suitable property for her customers. They have offices in London, but rely mostly on word-of-mouth to attract customers. The latter aspect has been successful largely due to the help from the Ashworth family.
Her parents are both halfbloods. On her mom's side, her grandmother is a witch and her grandfather is a muggle. On her dad's side, it's her grandmother who is the muggle. It's her muggle grandmother, oddly enough, who says Trip gets her divination skills from her.
Trip has 7 Muggle aunts and uncles, whose kids are mostly also Muggles. She visits them on a regular basis, and writes while she's at school. Her cousins aren't sure why she doesn't just email them, but love getting the mail. Trip generally has a supply of stationary for that purpose, as parchment would seem odd. She also takes other precautions when sending her muggle relatives mail. Often when going through all this, she laments the wizarding world's slowness in developing magical internet.
Trip's brothers are Demetrius (age 19) and Gideon (age 10). Demetrius just graduated from Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw, and Gideon will be coming next year.
Demetrius is reserved, and spends most of his time with the plants he loves so much. He often steers his younger sister to safer pastimes. A couple years ago they didn't get along too well, but they've both grown out of it. Trip is starting to value Demetrius's cool head, recognizing him as more than a "boring plant nerd". His approval means a lot to Trip.
Gideon is a regular hell-raiser. Trip and Gideon together are a small unstoppable force of mischief, and always have tons of fun. Trip keeps him from getting too out of hand, and Gideon gives her an excuse to be extra silly. Besides, Gideon is always up for implementing Trip's odd ideas. She does try to be a role model for her younger brother, however.
An interesting character is Dalaigh Cox (Uncle Da), her favorite of the adult relatives. He is the youngest sibling of Maeve, and definitely a family favorite. He spoils all his nieces and nephews rotten, but especially Trip. One of their favorite activities is shopping, as both love to give presents to the ones they care about. He has no spouse or children. He exerts most of his energy to his labor of love, an independent publishing company.
The other most important figure in her life is her paternal grandmother, Nana Cara. A muggle delighted with magic, she has her own way of doing things. It was Nana Cara who insisted the Trip learn the piano, Demetrius the guitar, and Gideon the drums. At first Orin and Maeve thought she wanted her grandkids to be well-rounded- later they learned she just wanted her own band. Trip has many fond memories of listening to her Nana tell stories before bed. As Nana gets older, their roles are starting to reverse- now Trip is helping Nana to bed and telling her stories about her life at Hogwarts.
Altogether, she has 13 aunts and uncles and about 20 cousins.
Significant Relationships:
Family: Optional: Quite simply, her family is the most important factor in Trip's life. Her parents do not quite have the same influence as they use to, as Trip gets older. However, she is starting to appreciate Demetrius's level head, realizing that he's more that a "boring plant nerd".
Any of the "big" questions in life Trip brings before her Nana Cara, who give her wise and often cryptic advice. Nana Cara is affectionate and fun and has always encouraged Trip to trust herself.
Friends: Optional: Her Uncle Da is her favorite co-conspirator and confidante.
Anything she doesn't want to ask/tell her parents, she'll write to him instead.
Other: Optional: She needs an owl for all the letters she writes, but a new owl would not last under Trip's care. So when she went to Hogwarts, she got Yozak instead. Yozak has been in the family for a while, and is accustomed to her missteps. However, Trip knows she needs an treat on hand if she wants Yozak to carry her letters. He also knows how to fend for himself, an important survival trait. They have a mutual, if wary, respect for each other.

Character Secrets:
Her parents have been key in establishing safe houses for others who need protection from Voldemort. However, Trip has no knowledge of this at the time. Her first reaction, if she were to discover it, would be to assess the danger to her family. She's be upset with her parents for a while, but come around pretty quick- they just wanted to keep her safe, after all.
Also, she'd become intent on the idea of a safe place, and probably try to create something along those lines at Hogwarts, most likely by charming either her personal space (bed, desk, etc) or by finding a "safe" place within the grounds.
Character Alignment:
Trip and her family are obviously anti-Voldemort. While they would like to do more to support of the fight against Voldemort, the Lynn family does not want to make their kids targets for the Death Eaters.
Trip is going to have to face her fear of conflict soon because of the war. Her loyalty will win out, and Trip will throw herself into learning how to better protect those around her.
