For the first time in weeks, the ground was not covered by mattresses when second years began to trickle in for their afternoon flying lessons. Geoffrey watched as his class assembled, his broom leaning against the stands several feet away. When he was at last satisfied that enough of the class had turned up for his liking, he cleared his throat. "Those of you who've brought your own brooms to class can go ahead and put them down for now," he told them. "We might get to them later, we might not. For now, I'd like you all to take out your wands - today we'll be working on useful safety spells." There were a few groans and he grinned. "Don't worry, we won't be doing anything overly complicated. Most spells that are useful for flying safety are just variations on Wingardium leviosa, which I'm sure you all learned last year."

Ramsey was, for once, the first one there for practice. He didn't doubt that this had something to do with the fact that it had been rainy for most of the day. He'd foolishly decided not to fly down to the pitch, and already his trainers were caked with mud and soaked through. His toes were cold and they squished in his socks. Had he been thinking, he would have put a water-proofing charm on his shoes and a warming charm on his socks while still at the castle. Unfortunately, the idea didn't occur to him until he was already half-way to the pitch and by then it was too late. Shivering slightly, he reinforced the already-present warming charms on his jacket and waited for the rest of the team to show up. It better not be another week of just him and Cody and the Prat.

Cody was charmed up and ready to go. He wasn't the absolute best Charms student, but he did have a bit of a practical side. Last practice he had let himself get wet and muddy, and he had felt cold for days. Having warmed up, he was going to stay that way, even if it was rainy again. He could still enjoy the rain without getting wet.

"Hey, man," he said.

The 6th year stared in disbelief at the sight before him. "You're fucking kidding me." Tobias was abso-fucking-lutely disgusted by this. He threw his broom to the ground and rubbed his face angrily with both hands. This was bloody ridiculous. WHAT was that stupid bint trying to do here?? She was letting the whole bleedin' team down and wasting these goddamn practices of theirs. THEY HAD A FUCKING MATCH THIS MONTH!

The older Slytherin dropped his hands from his face after a moment of deep breathing and muttering of further obscenities. He crossed his arms over his chest and looked at the pair. "Isn't this just fucking lovely?" He snarled.

Surprisingly for her, it looked as if Tegan was the first to appear on the pitch that Tuesday evening. She looked up at the sky and frowned as she saw the clouds. Crossing her fingers, she hoped that it wouldn't rain. They hadn't had a practice in the rain yet, and she wanted to hold that off as long as possible. Not because she hated the rain but because it would make it that much more complicated to play the game. And as this was only their third practice, she wanted to keep things as simple as possible.

"Hi ya!" She greeted Tegan as she walked up beside the girl, quickly scanning the rest of the pitch to locate any other members of the team. Specifically a certain Seeker. Ahem.

"Don't you hope it rains?" Anya offered cheerfully to the other girl, but frowned as Tegan gave her a certain look. What was that for? She just shrugged it off, unable to understand how the other girl was feeling. In Anya's mind, having the rain was more of a challenge. And that was excellent! Besides, she loved the rain. And it wasn't like they had to get wet or anything -- just cast a spell or two and they'd be fine.

She searched for something else to talk about, "Wasn't it scary when Trip fell off her broom last week?"

J.J. had seemed to perfect the art of avoidance, or at least could occupy himself enough that he didn't have to talk with certain people. Though it was a bit more frustrating and boring this year with Logan gone and all. But that's why he had Quidditch right? So that he could fly and let the time go flying by. That and pranking.

But he forgot that he would have to see her again today, and as he was walking towards the Pitch he suddenly remembered. Bloody hell he didn't need another awkward practice avoiding bludgers that were there to bloody kill him. Come game time he'd either be dead or be great at avoiding them. He hoped he wasn't dead.

So he managed to walk in slowly, sending a bit of a grin at Tegan and then ignoring Anya, bending down and pretending he needed to tie his shoe.

Ravenclaw Practice - FRIDAY, Oct. 6th derek_bly October 22 2007, 05:11:39 UTC
It was not Wednesday today. Yes, Ravenclaw had a standing reservation for the pitch and practice on Wednesday but being as how Wednesday, this particular Wednesday, happened to fall on October the fourth (aka one year since Derek and Hannah had started dating) Derek had moved things around and claimed the open Friday evening slot. Whether this was going to effect turnout stealing part of Friday night, he wasn't sure, but Derek was the Captain and happily enough, it was his call to make. He had more important things to do with his Wednesday, thanks. Quidditch could wait.

So, now that it was Friday, Derek was out on the pitch waiting for his team to show.

Talented child that she was, Ruth Ann had shown up on Wednesday for practice. Only to be sorely confused when the pitch was empty. It had taken her almost half an hour of waiting before she remembered that practice had been moved.

When Friday came, she was half asleep by evening, but she still managed to drag herself out on the pitch, her brother's broom over her shoulder. "'lo," she yawned. "Short practice, yes?"

Hannah and JFK walked out onto the pitch together as they'd appeared to have left at the same time from the Common Room. "Well there's no arguing that," she said in midsentence as they walked. "I'm just saying that there is something about him. You know? Ask anyone who has met him, I mean really met him. Had an intense conversation. Maybe it's a pureblood thing..." She gave JFK a sidelong glance before glancing at the pitch. Right, Friday night practice sounded a lot less fun right now.
