"I guess so." Matthieu managed to consider the question whilst acting on Geoffreys advice. As he scooted forward, the balance felt a hundred times better to him, and he even managed to take his second hand off and fly completely under his own balance for just a few seconds before snatching hold of the broom handle once more. A great big grin spread across his face, and he beamed at Geoffrey. "I did it!"
After a couple of minutes of concetrated flying in circles and practising of this new no-hands trick, Matthieu's concentration reverted back to their previous conversation. "I always hear about the girls chasing after Remy, and I figure I'd quite like that too. Who wouldn't?"
He paused for a moment, considering this. "I've not heard anything for a while, though. About a new girlfriend. It's odd."

"See there? It's not as hard as you think. Flying with no hands is an important skill, you know, and not just because the girls think it's neat," Geoffrey said with a grin. Obviously this boy was not a follower of ASS or whatever that group Gillichu kept spouting on about was called. "No hands means that you can cast spells while you fly. Or carry things. Very handy that."
Geoffrey nearly choked at Matthieu's innocent comment of not having heard anything about Remy and a new girlfriend recently and he fought to cover it up with a fit of coughing. "Ah, well," he said innocently once he'd managed to clear his throat some, "maybe you should ask him about that if you're really curious. Could be that he's found someone he cares about enough that he doesn't feel the need to parade them in front of the world. Or maybe he's just sworn off girls for the time being." Or both, Geoffrey thought to himself. Not that he was going to tell the second year that - it wasn't his place. Might tell Remy that it was time to have a talk with his brother

Wonderfuly empowered with the triumph of successfully managing to do his new 'trick', Matthieu gleefully started to circle the mattresses, practising taking his hands off over and over again until he could quite happily do a circuit of the matting without even wobbling. He looked so proud of himself, and absolutely shone with delight.
He did, however, snort loudly at Geoffreys suggestion that Remy would not show off a new partner. "Remy always shows off, about everything! Especially girls. He loves showing off girls. Why would he swear off them?" The Hufflepuff laughed, "It's not like he fancies boys or anything!"
It was, of course, painfully obvious by now that Remy had flat-out refused to say one word about his sexual preference to his little brother. As far as he was concerned, Matthieu could stay in the dark about that until he was collecting his pension.

Geoffrey grinned at the Hufflepuff's obvious delight. Yeah, he supposed there actually were some perks to this job. Now if only he could convince his nephew to get onto a broom...
He had to quickly turn another laugh into a cough as Matthieu insisted that Remy didn't fancy boys. "Something wrong with fancying boys, then?" he asked the second year, raising an eyebrow.
Glancing around the pitch, Geoffrey noticed some other students having difficulties. "Why don't you try going a bit faster with just one hand, then no hands?" he suggested to the boy. "I'll be right back. Just have to help some of your classmates for a bit." He couldn't spend the entire afternoon plumbing Matthieu for information on his brother, after all, no matter how amusing it was. With a sigh, he flew off to try and convince one Pimento Pepper that the purpose of the exercise was not to manage as spectacular a fall as possible.

"Well," Matthieu shrugged, "It's a bit silly, isn't it? I mean, who would fancy boys when there's girls around? Nope!" He shook his head, and fluffy blond hair bounced in front of bright green eyes, just as Geoffrey started to keep an eye on his other classmates, "I'll not ever be as silly as that."
As Geoffrey had suggested, the second year spent the few minutes by himself just circling, keeping his hand off the broom and then suddenly grabbing for it again as the unpredictable broom sped up and slowed down, almost threatening to chuck him off sideways if he wasn't careful. As Geoffrey came back towards him, the Hufflepuff dived straight back into their previous conversation - he never liked to leave something untied, or unanswered, after all.
"Do you fancy boys, Mr Chandler?" He smiled, small and blond and just as charming as his older brother. "You don't fancy my brother, do you?!" He stuck out his tongue, "Ewww, gross!"

Having done his best to convince Pimento to be at least a bit more cautious, Geoffrey flew back to where Matthieu was circling. "Just because you prefer girls to boys doesn't mean everyone does," he observed mildly as he watched the second year fly. "And though it's none of your business, no, I don't fancy boys," he added, because he didn't. He fancied men and women. "Boys" implied all types of squicky, illeagal things that he'd much rather not think about.
"Your brother is an attractive young man - did you think he'd be spared the attentions of boys who do fancy other boys?"

"Ew! Mr Chandler, that's wicked gross!" Matthieu's face was contorted into one of disgust at even the very thought that other boys might want to do with his brother what girls already wanted to do too. Did boys really fancy other boys?! And...girls other girls? Now, what was the point in that at all? "I'm sure," And he was very pompously sure, too, drawn up on his broom like a regal little prince, "If some weirdo boy fancied Remy, he'd tell them just where to go and stick it, and then he'd go right back to fancying girls."
Well - that was sort of true, anyway - perhaps Matthieu was closer to the truth than he had even had thought.
Re: Second Years; Friday, Sept. 29th, afternoon 1 & 2.candleschildrenDecember 18 2007, 02:07:08 UTC
Geoffrey did not at all doubt that, if alerted to another boy's attraction to him, Remy would indeed tell him "just where to go and stick it," though perhaps in a slightly different manner than Matthieu meant. "Perhaps this isn't the best topic of conversation while you're on a broom," Geoffrey said sagely as he watched the second year draw himself up on his broom - only to have the new position throw him off balance. The Gryffindor considered steadying the boy before he could fall, but decided against it. The purpose of the exercise was to learn to fall correctly, after all.
It did not help, of course, that he was not feeling particularly charitable to the pompous little brat at the moment.
Re: Second Years; Friday, Sept. 29th, afternoon 1 & 2.littleremyDecember 18 2007, 13:50:39 UTC
"Why not?" Matthieu, as Geoffrey had expertly forseen, was having rather more trouble now staying upright one-handed whilst trying to exude an air of royal pomposity. He rather ungainly wobbled, grabbed forward at the broom with his other hand, missed, wobbled more and fell spectacuarly off, onto the mattresses six feet below.
"You brought it up anyway," He accused the Quidditch coach, and grumpily reclaimed his broom, mounting it tentatively all over again. "Anyway, it's not like it even matters. Remy's always liked girls. My dad says he's a mans man - he's not some gayboy." The oblivious little Hufflepuff giggled, and began to rise slowly back into the air. "I bet he's just...taking a break from girlfriends, is all."
Re: Second Years; Friday, Sept. 29th, afternoon 1 & 2.candleschildrenDecember 18 2007, 19:49:43 UTC
"You need to spend more time practicing your falling - that was absolutely horrible, especially considering how much time we've been spending on it. Curl up more and tuck your head into your chest. Madame Russiani can easily heal your arms and legs if they get broken, but necks skulls are much tricker. And backs are pretty solid," Geoffrey critiqued, ignoring Matthieu's comments. He'd definitely have to make the time to talk to the second year's brother sometime in the near future.
