I'm sorry. :( I hoped he'd be feeling better. I've been there a couple of times, and it never gets easier. I always thought that if they still showed interest in the world around them, they were probably getting something out of it, but it's so hard to be sure where the balance is.
I wish I had advice for you, but my experience is very different. I grew up in a household brimming with animals and with parents who were 100% opposed to euthanasia in any form.
It's a very difficult situation and there aren't any easy answers. All I can say is to be guided by the vet staff - they're very experienced and dedicated and they're doing all they can for him.
I agree that the vet staff is going to help you make any decision. They seem to care for him deeply and they also have a sense of how he's doing from a physical point of view.
