Halloween

I'm somewhat curious about this Haunted House that I've heard Leeron-sensei has been putting so much effort into, and has been drafting students to help with. I'm sure Leeron-sensei will have gone all-out with the ( Read more... )

Yeah yeah yeah, there's a long history of holiday appropriation by other religions and Halloween ain't the first one. It's just a fun commercial holiday for most of us.

Perhaps, but if people forget about why it was originally celebrated then eventually there will be no reason for fun commercial events to be held. Also, if you naively join in the festivities of a holiday you could be celebrating something completely against what you'd usually stand for!

I'm in despair! People naively celebrating without knowing the history has left me in despair!

It's a whole lot of fuss over a little bit of candy, and from the bits and pieces I've been hearing since I got here, I probably would've been roped into participating.

Yes, most probably...the majority of the teachers around here seem to get rather deeply into this type of thing...

I agree that it's a lot of unnecessary fuss, especially as it's such a typically Western celebration. However, if people are going to celebrate then they should be aware of what it's about.

You're missing the point of this glorious holiday: candy.

Even if you do celebrate it simply for the candy (though I don't see much point in celebrating at all) you should at least know the history behind it!

Well...I my self would refer to it as being proactive about it, but I guess that term would do.
