The mistake isn't unusually bad, but Merlin makes it on a day that has been unusually bad for Arthur. After the prince endures a withering, public dressing down by Uther - capped off by a slap in the face so loud it makes Merlin's ears ring in sympathy - Arthur is silent, stone faced and stiff-backed with all the royal bearing he can muster. Hot! I don't think merlin will ever comply if he think Arthur going to rape him though. It's really great how merlin more worry about Arthur, very in character
