Nita fell asleep curled up next to Chainsaw, exhausted but pleased.
Liquid is flowing fast around her calves, standing up in fans on either side of her legs. The Moon is shining overhead. She can't make out any other landmarks.
Chainsaw rubs his face, smearing not-blood across it in the process, trying to find out what's wrong with his eyes. They won't open. It's annoying.
What's worse is the numbness; he's never been a very visual person, but texture is prominent in his sensory map of the world, and if he's going to wade through a river (lake? There are no edges and no boundaries) of whatever this stuff is, he wants to be able to feel it.
He can't hear anything. Does that mean there's no sound, or have his ears gone the same way as his eyes?

When he identifies Nita in the river he starts walking toward her, as simple and obvious a sequence as a sunflower turning toward the light.

She hasn't seen Chainsaw yet.
