I have a giant crush on Rushdie's writing and even I admit enchantress was terrible. If you aren't completely turned off him as an author, you could try Fury? It's quite readable.

Alice Munro yay!

Also, really really want to read that Zizek collection.

In conclusion, you have awesome taste and have read way more than me and I am jealous.

Fury, you say? I'm not sure I'm inclined to give him another chance THIS year, but in 2012, perhaps ;D

Any other book suggestions/favourites? I'm always eager to hear opinions!

in the line of non-fiction, i just finished a couple of essay anthologies, umberto eco, george orwell and jorge luis borges. all were lovely, in a highly twentieth-century-west-european way. i've been avoiding fiction a bit, because i tried to read gravity's rainbow and it nearly killed me. i did enjoy pynchon's inherant vice and i do recommend that. also, patricia highsmith, she wrote these beautifully crafted thrillers that only barely resemble my conception of thrillers.
