Hi, I have been knitting regularly now for a few months and an comfortable with many stitches, however I keep switching it seems from RS to WS and I don't know how I do it!
Unless you are knitting in the round, you need to knit the first row, then purl the "wrong side" or next row. Then knit again going back, then purl again going back the other way. Make sense?
If you are knitting flat (not in the round) when you look at the side that has the vvvvvv then you knit that side. When you are looking at the side that has the bumps, then you purl that side.
If you are knitting in the round, then you just knit ever row without switching to purl rows.
If you put down your work and pick it up, it's also very easy to tell which side you're supposed to be on. Your most recent stitch will have your working yarn hanging from it. If that stitch is on the right hand needle, you're on the correct side. :)

Are you knitting or purling two in a row? Like, instead of K,P,K,P you're accidentally KK,P,K,PP (etc)?

Purls are little bumps; Knits are "v"-shaped:
