Ok quick question. If the pattern calls for a YO, can it be replaced with another increase? The balnket i'm working on calls for them yet my YO's don't line up throughout the row and some of my YO are unraveling as I knit creating big gaping holes I'll have to fix them later. I really don't feel like ripping out the 2 days work and just figure

However, if you're getting big gaping holes that are actually unraveling, something is wrong with how you're doing your YOs; they should *not* unravel. A YO is *just* an extra loop of yarn around the right needle, which you then treat as a normal stitch on the subsequent row. If you're doing them between knit stitches (I assume this is the afghan pattern you asked for help on a day or two ago?), then all you do is bring the yarn forward between the needles (as if you were preparing to purl the next stitch), and then flip it over the right needle so it's in the back again; that's it, and you then proceed with the next instruction. This gives you an extra little piece of yarn that goes up the front of the needle and down the back, sitting just like a regular stitch does, and on the next row you just knit it like it was any other stitch.
