ok, say you were to k1, yf (yarn forward), then knit one again.. is that basically like a yarn over to increase?

There's a slight difference between yf and yo. In a yo, you bring the yarn forward and back over the needle, *then* start working the next stitch. In a yf, you bring the yarn in front, but instead of immediately wrapping it back, you put the needle into the next stitch to knit, *then* wrap the yarn back. I haven't made a comparison swatch myself, but apparently it does look slightly different. If this isn't clear, I'll take a picture, k? : )

well, i did a pattern for a womb that is an alternate to the one in knitty and it say to YF. i went ahead and just started it before your response and did them as YOs, however it turned out ok... lol. it's kinda cute anyway.

if you do make a swatch and post a pic, i'd love to see so i can understand... thanks!
