Help! I Have a Question About Stitches

Nov 18, 2012 16:11

I don't know if anyone will pay this any attention whatsoever, but if you do, I need ideas ASAP. I have this scene I just wrote where Dean takes a shower. It can be re-wrote if necessary to have him just clean up with a washrag, but I'd like to keep in intact if I can. The problem is, he has stitches across his chest--and you're not supposed to get ( Read more... )

There are water proof bandages that are safe for showering.
Hope that helps :)

Really? Would they have had them even back in season two?

They've been around for several years so I'd say most likely but I can't guarantee it.

Okay, thank you! Dean thanks you! The story thanks you! We'll use it and just hope no one remembers if they had such thinks then or not. :)

The hubs recently had to deal with that very problem. There were a couple things he did:

- put his back to the shower, so no direct spray hit the incision/stitches

- put a bandage (or in his case, a series of them as the incision was about 12" long) over the stitches

- wrap his torso in plastic wrap to keep the water out...which always meant he had to use a rag on the area around his incision, but he was able to get the rest of his body clean and feel better

I hope that helps!

Well, that is very helpful! I'll have to use of series of waterproof bandages then and make sure he keeps his back to the spray. I'm so glad there is a work around.

I had thought about having him use the plastic wrap around the torso, but I wasn't sure if it would be waterproof enough or worth the trouble. But, if real people do this, then it should work for a story.

Thank you SO much. Dean's shivering, paint covered body thanks you!

You can put a piece of plastic over the stitches and use tape to hold it to the skin so water would not get to them. I did this myself. I don't know if the new techniques would make it fine to have a shower....

Well, the consensus seems to be that using waterproof bandages and maybe even plastic wrap over that would work, particularly if he keeps his back to the spray, so I'm thinking I'll go with that. I'm happy for those who commented because I wanted to keep the scene, so thank you for taking time to help me out! :)

*hugs*
