Those welfare drug tests are such b.s. - and Republicans refuse to admit that the testing costs far more than the savings the state gets because there are so few positives.
Plus, deny the truly poor welfare and you're basically inviting them to become criminals.
The Miami Herald & other papers have pointed out the lopsided cost of the program as opposed to its demonstrated lack of success in snagging folks in their dragnet. Apparently, conservatives figure in the impossible-to-tally group of folks who will self-select themselves out of the program. It could be one person but that would totally justify running $200K in the red.
Good that Florida has had the law stricken. However, a Plains state (Nebraska or Kansas, I believe) just enacted a similar law within the last month or so.
