I really have very little need to post here, except to say that I currently feeling a lot of love for my thesis topic. Sure, the philosophy is still vaguely mind-boggling and makes me fear that I will be left bull-shitting during my defense, but guys? I like American history. I love American political thought. No country is perfect, and it's frustrating to hear Americans complain about how-so-terrible we have it here. We're one of the first countries to successfully switch political ideals without bloodshed, from Federalists to Democratic-Republicans. We've followed, more or less, ever since. Politics is a living thing, and a republic is continuously growing.

We're still one of the youngest countries, and yet the world power. We did something right, and even when we eventually step down for another country, we haven't failed. We're still just trying to strive for that idea that even our Founding Fathers couldn't agree on how to accomplish.

The higher a country's ideals, the more vulnerable it is to charges of hypocrisy. As you say, that doesn't mean we should expect the worst of ourselves.
