Reading List 2009-2010 School Year:

Note: This is the attempt to revive an old habit of tracking my reading. The Odes commentary is quite new - just out last year, I think, and is way more exhaustive than any other resource on the text I've yet to hear of. Charlesworth is the most regular publisher on the text, and his new popular edition of them is quite attractive: I hope it gets the Odes into more people's hands. That has a good introduction, which can be skipped, and then keeps the scholarly paraphernalia to a minimum.

Always a fan of Patrick O'Brian...though I prefer Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series. Anything J. Riley-Smith writes is pretty much golden.

Hey John. I've heard of the Sharpe series, although more from hearing of my Mom's enthusiasm for the television adaptation, I think. I'd love to wander through one of Riley-Smith's full Crusade histories at some point. Any recommendations?

The television series is wonderful, and perhaps better than the books .
The Crusades: A History is probably a good place to start.
