I woke to the wretched news that one of my most important teachers at Notre Dame has died. During the second year of my M.A. at Notre Dame, I studied Judaism with Rabbi Michael Signer, which turned into one of the most purely pleasurable courses of my student career. I just feel awful for his family, and all those like his, who have to deal with a loss come too early.

I can categorically affirm that you would have had a blast: he was a knowledgeable, wise and fully-engaging teacher.

He sounds like a wonderful teacher - God willing, maybe we all can study some Torah together in the world to come.

It reminds me of a great professor of German and French whom I had at community college, who unfortunately also died too soon of cancer.

I am reading some of the tributes for Michael and came across yours. Thank you for such wonderful words. Somehow I think that Michael is looking down and amused by all the accolades but I know he would be very pleased and would have loved them all. His students and teaching were his joy which gave him meaning and purpose.
We will all miss him very much but I know that you will carry his spirit forward in your own work and he would be very proud of you.
