Personal: Return to Marquette; Grace at Mass

Jun 17, 2004 10:04

Finally back home in my apartment at Marquette. I've been unpacking the last few days, walking the sidewalks of the university, doing some reading, chatting with folks I meet in corners and coffeehouses, and even last night had dinner with Professor Barnes. My reading still has to be on the simpler side, as the surgeon said I'd have trouble with advanced reading like academic theology for a few more weeks. So I read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban again prior to seeing the movie (likely with Barnes). Now I'm on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Can't read just one.

I've also been answering oodles of mail. I got a chance to be at my sister's for a few days and to hang with her and Jim while celebrating my niece/goddaughter Grace's second birthday. The highlight of the visit was Mass Sunday where during the psalm, where the congregation was singing a line that's a prophesy of Christ: "You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek." After the last time singing, silence settled over the congregation and was broken by Grace yelling out, "Yay!!!" "Yeah," I thought, "Yay! That's a fabulous theological response! Damn right, yay!"

Now I've been setting up a recording studio in my studio apartment, creating a greater mayhem of too much jammed into too little space. I wanted to record demos of some of my newer stuff in fuller form. And it's getting fun: doing everything is really interesting, except I know it's more interesting doing everything with the band.
