I find your choices of characters interesting. I was surprised that Angelo is one of the five. I also wasn't expecting Mycroft to be the "+I" but now that I think about it, it does make sense. Plus, I guess with the type of job Mycroft has underestimating people might be risky (even if that person is short and is wearing cuddly jumpers).
I was surprised Mycroft was the +1 as well. I was planning for it to be Sherlock, hence why it was five 'times' and not five 'people', but Mycroft made sense as soon as I thought of it. He would have all of John's files, everything he'd done in the war, and he obviously would have to be a good judge of character - he's a Holmes. And I think Angelo must be more than a trifle intelligent for Sherlock to have solved the case in the first place. It came to me and wouldn't sod off until I'd written it, so it was done in about ten minutes, but I'm glad you liked it.
It is a bit sad, though, that I think there are more than 5 people/times that have underestimated our dear Dr. Watson. Sally has, and Anderson too, and even Moriarty. And the awful Sebastian Wilkes too.
Mycroft seems as a good judge of character, and the canon conversation they had showed that he took John very seriously since day one.
Thanks for sharing, hope you continue to fill prompts!
Thank you kindly. Yes, I think basically everyone underestimates John when they first see him. It's the cuddly jumpers, I know it. Although it does work in his favour though, because it amplifies his BAMFy-ness. If he was obviously BAMFy no one would ever be surprised. AND YES! Thank you for referencing the canon! Now I think about it my subconscious totally knew what it was doing.
