I can tell you there is absolutely no better way to learn French than to attempt to work in it - between a few months at a crappy retail job in downtown Montreal and a couple years at a semi-decent office job in the west island, my ability to speak and especially to write in French improved drastically. Also on the pro-Montreal side, the cost of living there is astonishingly cheap compared to every other large city in this country (we paid $760 a month for a massive one-bedroom five minutes' walk from Concordia).

Pretty much every time I heat up a frozen pizza, I eat the whole thing. But then, that's sometimes all I'll eat for several hours, so maybe that makes it less weird. I don't know.
