So I called Dell tonight, thinking maybe I could play ball with them. I've found a few coupon codes on various websites (including some that take me straight to a part of the dell.ca website), and I punched them in on my hypothetical system, but to no avail. Why do you need such a beefy laptop? I don't know what your space situation is, or lifestyle with regards to computing, but I would suggest getting a $500 desktop which has all the bells and whistles you seem to want. Then, get a cheap $500 laptop with an Athlon XP or something in it. That way, you can still do all your crazy uh... stuff... whatever you people do with 2 gigs of ram and Core 2 Duo processors... and then have a laptop to tote around for normal tasks throughout the day. As an added bonus, you'll have two computers of reasonable quality so you can plan LAN games with more people who don't have their own computers.

Huh! That's an idea. But my space situation is pretty tight. I think you're right to ask me why I need something so robust; I'm just thinking it would be good to be able to edit video and play some old games and whatnot, but I can probably scale back a bit... I think this has more to do with my personality than my actual computing needs.

I'm calling a moratorium on laptop related posts until I actually get one. I should have been using LJ-cuts or something. Sorry if I got carried away.

WARNING: Buying a Mac will most certainly lead to joining a cult. The cult of Jobs.
