Thanks to technology we still have a chance

not all hope is lost, but we need to do something NOW.

Global Warming Is Reversible

Scientists now tell us that the crisis of global warming is even worse than their earlier projections. Daily front-page headlines of environmental disasters give an inkling of what we can expect in the future, multiplied many times ( Read more... )

I was watching Nova and I heard about a couple of interesting techonologies that you might not have heard about. There's a guy working on a paint that will be able to collect solar energy. Basically you'd have to lay down a foilesque base and then run some sort of wiring over that. Apparently is paint is applied over that and for a couple thousand dollars more than the cost of a normal roof you don't have to pay to run the A/C in the summer (probably the most expensive thing to run). In another lab their developing multi-band light cells. They say the problem with conventional solar-cells is that they can only use specific bands of light. To correct this, they make compound cells with multiple layers. Each layer is responsive to a different wave-length of light. I'm not sure how they avoid those other wave-lengths from being filtered out, but apparently the technology has already been used by NASA on a lander. It is still not practical from a cost to energy ratio for commercial/residential use.
