Rollerskate Skinny

I've really been digging Rollerskate Skinny's "Horsedrawn Wishes" -- a combination of My Bloody Valentine and Pet Sounds era Beach Boys.

Was -just- listening to them. They're fantastic. "Speed to My Side" is a real classic for me. Definitely check out the Kid Silver album that the frontman did a few years later, which isn't noisy but has the same sort of songwriting.

Hi MW! Good to hear from you!

Yes, that is an amazing song, isn't it? Man Under Glass really blows me away too. I just ordered Kid Silver, as well as Shoulder Voices. I guess the frontman fell into depression after the Kid Silver album, resurfaced tending bar in NYC. Some of the members of Aspera recognized him and convinced him to form a new band, Favourite Sons.

It's a great story, although I'm not sure if the music really matches up. I listened to some of their songs online and they're definitely much more straightforward.

What have you been listening to lately? Any suggestions?

Apart from the usual jazz-noise crap, I'm still very fond of the Canadian weirdos in Frog Eyes, Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, and Wolf Parade. Also enjoying the DC denizens in Circus Lupus and Monorchid. Not much else in the pop dept.

Thanks for letting me know about the Sons...I'll check them out. Sounds like they lost the complex arrangements though, which would be terribly disappointing.

I bought a Frog Eyes album and the Swan Lake album, but haven't been too into either one of them. After listening to "All Fires," I had high hopes for Swan Lake, but I feel like the other songs don't really shine quite as much.
