Once again I send an email to them saying I'm more than happy to pay but I just can't pay because their payment gateway don't accept my card. I am open to any work-around payments. I'd like more icons, myself, but they won't accept any kind of my attempted payments. I assume it's because I live in the US and it's due to the Russia-Ukraine War?

I imagine that the cost of keeping LJ up and running is actually very low, especially individual English-language journals. ONTD has way more traffic, and i guess the Cyrillic corner of LJ is also still more lively? If we're really cynical, there is probably more money to be earned by scraping our entries to be used as an input for LLMs, perhaps to mangle and spit back out onto mainstreaam social media as generated bot content. LJ's top level owner is a Russian state bank, and it is well-known that the Russian state funds operations to flood western social media with nonsense content, so maybe not too far-fetched of a conspiracy theory!
There is a slim chance that Trump's election will result in an eventual renormalization of Russia. But even if Trump convinces Zelenskyy to capitulate, disarm and sign over a big chunk of Ukraine, would the financial sanctions imposed by the EU (not the US) drop immediately? Is that how it works? Arbitrarily invade a neighboring country, get locked out of the international banking system for an act of ( ... )
