I read the book and I thought it was really sad, but also that he had no sense of how fortunate he was in life. There was a lot of entitlement. I did come out of it thinking his dad and brother were complete tossers... but I've always thought that Charles wasn't a good person. Who gets engaged to an 18yo girl, when he's 30, and keeps a mistress?? Total creeper. He so took advantage of her naivete.
I was disappointed that there weren't any pictures. I thought there'd be lots of his childhood and time in Africa.
He read the audiobook right? I read the book and I was blown away at how unkind and frigid his family was! I’m not sure how much I can believe or not believe but I felt that as a memoir it really delivered. I also read or listened to Elliot page’s memoir and Britney’s memoir this year so that’s my main point of comparison.
